defence or midfield cost us play offs

The defence was a shambles throughout the season, and it didnt improve much after Sven arrived either. We went through too many partnerships at the back, and never went after a real leader at the back which cost us. To concede over 70 odd goals and be up there with a chance is amazing, just lucky we were able to score too.

Definitely the defence. The midfield gave us a chance to make the play offs after a bad start. Sure King and Wellens tailed off a bit, but had it not been for them we would never even be talking about how close we came. The defence was largely inconsistent throughout the whole season, it needs radically overhauling.

Didnt we start with Sven 8 points off the play offs and end pretty much in the same position??

Yes but that was only 9 games in. If you take that total behind and work it out for the rest of the season e.g 8x5 would have been 40 points down from the play offs come the end of the season. Your logic is flawed.

But that logic doesnt work because if you discounting those games you are discounting 8 of the harder fixtures, Sven took one more point than Sousa did from the games he was in charge so it could be argued our starting position wouldnt of been much different.

But like has been said, we got within 2 and we had started to take the playoffs for granted and talk about automatic, it really does show how woeful we were in the last quarter of the season.

 erm which one would that be?

Ricardo.

I think Bugg's video perfectly illustrates that it's not weale. I'm not entirely certain Kirkland touched the ball other than picking it out of his net & Ikeme & Logan - the less said about those pair the better.

You could combine a whole host of factors. But i'd start with our closing down up front. We just don't bother. This means that when an attack breaks down, instead of pressing the opposition in the attacing half of the field and making it hard to start a constructive attack, we concede ground to some 10-20 yards behind the halfway line.

Barcelona may be famed for their fast-passing football but they press very high and very quickly, giving the opposition no time to build attacks in numbers or with unchallenged accuracy.

Yes, constant changes in personnel, clumsy individual mistakes and taking too many touches or getting caught in possession in midfield doesn't help but we should attack as a team and the defend as a team by pressing quickly.

This requires players with pace and energy but also the unity of spirit and understanding that comes with playing together consistently.

I can see sven is trying to make us play like barca, high tempo, free flowing football but like thracian says we are not pressing as a team and the players we had could not keep the ball for that long. However this is the future of football, barcelona have set the benchmark of how football should be played and i am glad we are following the same route. But the missing jigsaw in our team is someone who plays the busquets role! Sitting in front of the defence, breaking play up, setting.up attacks, and never losing the ball. We need this sort of player

Agree with all of this... Teams attack as a unit and defend as a unit.. As I said previously, we look good going forward, but very shaky coming back to defend. Good with the ball, not so good without it. This is what Sven and DF need to adress IMO

Exactly! Absolutely crying out for this type of player

i think we should forget about this season, lets look to the future and concentrate on next season, if we get some good signings in i think we will go up, there is no point to keep blaming people because you can not change where we finished now, we just need to focus on next season. :scarf:

its not about looking at the past, its just looking at our weaknesses last season and making sure we improve on that area for next season. My view is the fact that we had no defensive midfielder, no one to break up play and defend again attacks from the opposing teams.

sven cost us . we were 7th, in form , settled side , then he changed things . and with no signings yet and being linked to given (who would never drop to the championship ) and others who wont come i am hoping the two months to get players in, fit and gelled as a team, isn't too much for him . going to be tough this year .expectations a very high , hope we aren't asking this same question after next season

Blaming sven is stupid in my view. This season the football we have played has been exceptional, best football i have seen at leicester. People are saying this kind of football wont get you promoted...swansea? Qpr? They played the same style of football, and smashed this league. Give sven the summer to buikd a team and lets see what happens!
