I'm resurrecting this thread as a relatively new boarder. Been going a couple of months down Chillfactore and got the hang of riding regular and switch now, plus starting tog et the hang of carving and my 180s on the flat.

Anyway, has anyone ever been boarding in Thollon Les Memises? My mate's offered us his uncle's chalet there for nowt to go for a long weekend boarding next year and we're just weighing up that (and the fact that it's free, apart from very cheap flights) against a sort of package deal.

Anyone got any preferences for locations or had any experience of Thollon themselves?

A Snowboarding Ft'er - join the fraternity. There's now err two of us. My advice is grab every opportunity you get even if it's just a few days - I've never been to Thollen unfortunately so can't advise you but I checked out the WSG Resort here but there's not a lot of info: http://www.worldsnowboardguide.com/resorts/france/thollonlesmemises/index.cfm

On the snow:

Check the snowfall over past seasons and only book the flights when it's most likely to be snow-sure......

Nice, cheers Nick.

Did you end up getting the Lib Tech board? I'm about to invest in my first once I get back from New York, liking the look of the Burton Whamy Bar for this season (not just the Pink Foyd graphics :P ). Been testing out one of the in house rockers down at Chill, took a couple of sessions of getting used to but makes turning no end easier, probably about right for a beginner/intermediate boarder like myself.

If you're ever Manchester bound Chill Factore are doing some decent offers regularly, £60 unlimited lift pass for October so plenty of time for me to get some practise in and maybe try some park stuff once I've worked upthe nerve :D

I used to ride big mountain (Daggers and Zingari will not be able to help themselves with that statement) so traditionally rode longer boards 164 -172... Since surgery and a lot of new technology coming out I have found that the rocker boards allow the front end to come up on a shorted board even in powder, hence the floating sensation.

Yeah I bought the Lib Tech Banana Magic and some great bindings which are really easy to get in and out of (used to ride Flow):

SP Core Bindings:

Makes the world taste good. The board copes with just about everything so it's now the only one I own at the moment (apart from a few sentimental antiques from my first real achievements)

Not too close to Manchester I am afraid but myself and the other half are about to book a holiday somewhere probably for January.... we favour Austria because we like the apres..........

All this snowboarding talk is making want to crave the dusting of snow. Therefore I am going to turn on my Xbox and put SSX on. It's much warmer and I can enjoy a drink whilst doing. I'll have to watch out for thumb cramp, and possibly couch arse.

Boo Hiss, you boarders are as mad as fook, cutting me up on my planks of wood.i have dislocated my shoulder quite a few times in the past, and I have been told a sure way of doing it again is to snowboard,I went to La Tania (3 Valleys) late March, loads of snow, loads of boarders and lots of beginners spending the whole week on their arse.my legs are too long and my balance these days is poor,I'm better off on skis.La Tania is worth a try though,a British guy runs the pub and the booze is cheap, good priced and tasting food and one chairlift from courchevel.Which is not cheap!

I've been bored once, does that help?

Only the once I've posted over 2000 posts!

This one is wet, this one is wet, this one is wet, this one is wet.

Did you dry these in a rainforest?!

Why with the power of the death star do we not have a tray that is ****ing dry?!

My dad used to have a car with big riding boards on the side .

I used to jump on and pretend to be one of Al Capone's gang and shoot everyone in the street with a machine gun .

Edit

I think they may have been called running boards though.

After the raging success of a week in Andorra last week I've now decided to try and squeeze a few days in Tignes in next month to end the season. Hurrah!

Will do mate. You too. Andorra was my first boarding holiday having only started probably 8 months ago so the fact that I'm attempting to get another holiday in within weeks of getting back shows how hooked I am :D Took some getting used to riding powder but second time round I should be better. Mainly blue and red runs last week but may work up the nerve for a black this time.

How long you out there for?

a week with the family and friends x4.Last year was our 1st time ,and yes all hooked.Had a few days at MK and Hemel as a refresher, and the daughter (12) is on a school trip skiing ,so she will put us to shame.

I've not got the balls or the flexibility for black runs, but never say never.
