I think it does show a lack of respect; if your situation is indeed life threatening, then antagonising the country which is sheltering you is an extremely foolish thing to do - biting the hand that feeds you, as the saying goes. It leads me to believe that either A) Their lives weren't as endangered as they'd have people believe (if it was, i'm sure they'd do everything to make sure they didn't go back there) B) They are extremely spiteful people, willing to take advantage of the country sheltering them C) They're very stupid Neither of them are great options. Personally, I still don't think I would send them back (unless we could do a direct trade for a more deserving refugee!) however it does anger me alot, and if the government did decide to send them back (the ones with more serious crimes at least) I don't think I would have particularly hard feelings about it.
