Ric Flair Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Don't be so quick to rule out Nugent as an out and out goalscorer, put a player of his calibre in the right system and he'll score goals. I can't wait to watch him, i've wanted him at Leicester since he was at Bury.
PNE Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Alright lads, congrats on signing SSL from us firstly. On his day he is top drawer, and has proved this on the international stage with Ireland. He has a big heart this lad and am sure will be a big hit with the supporters. Also on signing David Nugent, think he needed a move to resurrect his career. He was amazing for us, don't think it really worked for him at Portsmouth but he was behind the likes of Defoe, Kanu, Crouch and Baros when he went there. His first proper chance came last season and scored 14 goals in a struggling team. Can confirm these two are best mates and enjoyed the nightlife of Preston whilst here! Good luck for the coming season and apologies for the shite music!

sdb Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Thanks PNE. Read a Pompey forum this morn and it's fair to say the majority of them aren't losing any sleep over Nugent's departure. Hope he recaptures his best form with us.

Hope he recaptures his best form with us. I think there's still a little animosity with regards to his first season there. He cost them £6 million from Preston, and returned very little in the Premier League.
Ozwin Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I think there's still a little animosity with regards to his first season there. He cost them £6 million from Preston, and returned very little in the Premier League. Hardly his fault they spent stupid money on him. It's not like there weren't other players they bought and paid silly wages to either.
Marmite Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Schupp just posted that he got home from training with a headache, I replied that I hoped Sven was not working to hard and asked him if Nugent looked ok, he replied jeffers92 jeffrey schlupp @ @pageyLCFC the sun is the main cause! But he looked sharp mate.
Leicfox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Since we signed Nugent and although I initially thought it was a good signing, I've not really been that bothered about it, Until today. I've been sat here thinking about our current signings so far and Nugent will be the signing of the season for me atm. Sven knows how to get the best out of players and he's the master of the arm around a player tactic. Nugent who is only 26yrs will be refreshed, and raring to go. This new lease of life will be our gain and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he'll get 20+ goals this coming season. I just hope fans don't get on his back if he starts off slow. You know when you just get a feeling that a player is perfect for your club?..Nugent is my feeling.
John Matrix Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 New striker David Nugent has revealed it was Leicester City's lofty ambitions that persuaded him to sign for the club. Backed by their wealthy Thai owners, Sven Goran Eriksson's men have been busy in the summer transfer window, bringing in Kasper Schmeichel, Lee Peltier, Neil Danns, Matt Mills and Sean St-Ledger as well as Nugent. The 26-year-old left Portsmouth at the end of last season after his contract expired and had been linked with a host of clubs. However, the former Preston striker insists Leicester were the only club he was interested in after speaking to Eriksson about the Foxes' Premier League ambitions. "There was a lot of clubs interested, but Leicester made a firm offer first," he said. "They've been trying to get me since last January so they know what I'm about. "The gaffer gave me a phone call and said he wants me at the club. He told me the ambition is to get in the Premier League so there was only one club I wanted to come to when I knew they were interested." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_7031259,00.html
gazfox9 Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 I too hope/think he can be a 20 a season man. If we continue to create openings like we did last season I see no reason why Nugent won't bang in 20. Just hope he gets a goal in the first few games as the 1st goals always the hardest for a striker at a new club.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 Watching those Youtube clips (yeah yeah, I know...yawn) has got me quite excited about Nugent. Looks quick to me. We need someone that attacks defenders, he'll do some damage with us, I'm certain.
