Leicester City are delighted to confirm that terms have been agreed with striker David Nugent, who becomes the latest big name to join Sven-Goran Eriksson's squad.

David, 26, has agreed a three-year contract with the Foxes and will join up with his new team-mates to begin training on Wednesday, having recently left Portsmouth as a free agent.

A forward with proven goal-scoring pedigree and an England international, Nugent joins the Foxes after four years with Pompey, who paid Preston North End £6million to sign the Liverpool-born striker in July 2007.

City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson said: "David is another player who has made it very clear that he wanted to play for us, which is a pleasing sign and shows that we are moving in the right direction.

"He is a high calibre footballer and has played in the Premier League and at under-21 and international level for his country.

"David is hard-working and will score goals for us, whilst creating opportunities for others. We are very pleased to have him on board as we continue to assemble a squad fit to challenge for promotion."

On the books of Liverpool as a youngster, Nugent came up through the ranks at Bury, for whom he made over 100 appearances and scored 20 goals before making the move to Deepdale aged 19.

His goal-scoring exploits during two-and-a-half years with the Lilywhites and his impressive performances in the England Under-21 setup saw Nugent heavily linked with a move to the Premier League - speculation that only intensified in March 2007 when he scored on his debut for the England senior side in a 3-0 win over Andorra in Barcelona.

He joined top flight Portsmouth that summer and picked up an FA Cup winners' medal in his first season, but was loaned out to Premier League rivals Burnley for most of the 2009/10 campaign as Pompey struggled financially. He scored six times in 20 games for the Clarets, including a match-winning double against Sunderland on his home debut.

He returned to Fratton Park last season and scored 14 times for the south coast club, including the only goal in a 1-0 win at Leicester in March.

Nugent's home debut in a Foxes shirt could be in this summer's historic fixture against Spanish giants Real Madrid on Saturday July 30. Tickets for the game are currently on sale to Season Ticket Holders and prospective Members.

Excellent news. Just a few more now.

I'm quite intrigued how all players are getting 3 year deals. Are they likely set up as incentive based to get us up this year. I'd imagine we are offering some hefty promotion bonuses for players to join. Our starting 11 and bench is going to be tasty. :trumpet:
