Travelodge steals your money

Recommended Posts

Dear Customer,

I just wanted to make you aware that on your next bank statement you will notice an additional charge and a refund for a Travelodge room booking you made on the 9 June 2011 - in reference to booking confirmation(s): XXXXXXX

Unfortunately, this is due to a genuine mistake by our payment processing company, The Logic Group, who sent a wrong file for payment; which resulted in a small number of customers being charged twice for a room booking.

As soon as The Logic Group brought this matter to our attention, we immediately authorised all payments to be refunded. We have been informed by our bank that most of our customers affected by this incident will receive their full refund today. However, for some customers it may take up to 48 hours due to their bank's clearing procedures.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you, and I thought it was best to contact you directly and explain what has happened. If you have any queries regarding this matter, or have incurred any additional bank charges, please contact [email protected]

Yours sincerely

This happened 2 days ago... they made no contact for 48 hours to advise that they had "mistakenly" taken this money. Therefore my account was left without this amount wihtout my knowledge.

They say a small number of customers... i understand that EVERYONE who booked on that day was double charged (someone im aware of was billed for more than 600 pounds twice)

It is nigh on impossible to contact this business. the only option is through a email option, which they guarantee you will be contacted within 7 working days!!

I found a phone number by searching the google segret phone numbers list, when i spoke to someone.. they told me it was my BANKS fault not theirs.

a few weeks ago their website was found to be unprotected and all of my (and everyone else who has ever booked with them) details were stolen and used for spamming and who knows what else.

my final question is... why would my bank authorise a payment to this company without my authorisation... they told me that as travelodge used the same details they just accepted and paid it out?

Travelodge = fooking shambles!

Since this event I've been swamped by emails 'apparently' from banks, namely the Halifax, LloydsTSB, HSBC and even Apple none of whom have I every had an account with or done business with all telling me things like my account's been temporarily suspended and asking for details. It's so obvious but so annoying as there seems to be no way of stopping them.

If the double payment put you into an overdraft, I wonder if you could claim the overdraft fees back?

I'm sure you can but it's a complete pain in the arse.

These useless fookers have just sent the apology email AGAIN... seems they do EVERYTHING twice... .

Just noticed that they have added a bit more to the apology...

I can confirm that this incident is not related to the recent Hacking incident and I hope that this can allay your fears that this was a fraudulent transaction.

ALLAY MY FEARS??...FFS it WAS a fraudulent transaction.. YOU stole my money!

Not to mention that the stupid fooking bank allows people to just take money from my account!!!

Completly unrelated but i stayed at a 41/2 star appartment last weekend and found out they had deducted money out of my account. So i gave them a call and said i had consumed a can of soft drink, a bottle of water, a panadol, a bag of cashews and a chocolate bar. I told them i hadn't and no questions asked got a refund. It seemed as if they wore just trying it on and hope i wouldn't realise.

That is shit. I once had a bank in Italy collect 10m euros from a load of customers 3 days early. ****ing PR disaster, and 100% the bank at fault. They are on a different planet.

I would like to confirm that I have today refunded £5 into the account that made the original booking, which covers the phone call charges that you have incurred as a result of this problem.

Please allow between 3-5 working days for these to clear into this account.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you and I thought it was best to contact you directly and explain what has happened. If you have any queries regarding this matter or have occurred any additional bank charges please contact [email protected].

Now the third email from them... this time addressed to me personally ( i assume due to the continual barage of emails i have sent them). A minor shange to the wording from the previous two... but, still no option to speak to anyone... no offer of even a direct email. But its ok theyve put 5 pounds in. Now i guess i should thank them for small recompense... but seriously, i challenge anyone to find a phone number that will give you someone to talk to about a concern or complaint (not a booking as i have spoken to them).

That would be incredibly dificult to explain to clients :o

Mind you, this is still not a banking error...other than thier systems (all banks) can allow this to occur. Just remember as the banks work currently, if you buy and pay for anything using your credit/debit card...if the people send your details through twice.. the bank will simply give them the money TWICE.

i asked the bank if they got the same request for payment every month... would they continue to give them money, the representative said "oh, that just doesnt happen"

Yes. I bought a car for 7 grand, and the dealer was told it failed and so put it through again. My bank paid it out twice, even though it too me 6 grand overdrawn. Nuts.

Are they unaware as to who they're messing with? I wouldn't give the runaround to anyone with a name like that!

Same, I've had loads of spam emails recently too - all since the Travelodge fiasco.

I continued my barrage of emails to their "customer service" email, still no actual phone or personal contact, lol, but i received a 5 pound credit to my bank account to cover my phone calls etc.

They are handling this in News Ltd style, just a bloody shambles and complete ignornace toward their customers. Close their eyes and hope it goes away.
