Err if Johnson doesnt float your boat, what will?

I hoenstly think Gerrard is out of the question!

I thought Johnson was a terrific player when he was coming through, but he's been out of action for about 2 years now (probably more) so it is optimistic and unrealistic to pin all our hopes on him?

I think the signing of Johnson could be fantastic if he can stay fit, but given his injury problems I think we have to be sensible about it. I hope, for both us and him, that he can revive his career and prove his undoubted class.

Just for the record - I am very enthusiatic about this season and over the moon about the signings that we have made, but I still stand by my assertion that I would have liked to have seen some more attachking midfielders and forwards. I hope people don't see that as negative - just an observation, based on my love of attacking football. I a.lso appreciate that the management no far more than me, so I am just posting such comments to stimulate discussion, not to question Sven and his team.

Have you seen how many forwards we have been linked to Keane, Long, Carew and Jerome

Fair comment - I am just a bit concerned that we haven't signed a really top quality attacking player (although Nugent is a decent signing). As far as I can see we have been linked with every player under the sun so I don't read too much into the rumour mill.

I would love to see us sign Nick M - I think that would really change the dynamic of the team/squad.

ha ha - yep, one thing we don't need to do this season is worry, we are definitely going to be in the hunt come May.........even ignoring the further signings that we are destined to make!

Just chill out and relax watching some bloody exciting footy

Why does no one seem to realise there are no guarantees with footballers.

Good point. As we have already seen with Torres, you can fork out £50m on a world class striker and still not guarantee goals.

Very true actually, the history of, for example, premiership football, is littered with failed big money signings - Veron, Shevchenko (when signed by Chelsea), Dzecko is struggling at Man City - the list goes on....

Akinbyi !!!

Indeed - I think there is a stat that we paid more for Akinbyi in 2000-01 than Bayern Munich paid for any player that season - and they won the Champions League! Hilarious when you think about it, because despite his incredible phsical attributes, the guy was unbelievably limited as a footballer.
