Happy Fox Posted 24 July 2011 Posted 24 July 2011 Sven knows the transfer market inside out, he has addressed our defense and he will find a player to strengthen our attack
Guest ttfn Posted 24 July 2011 Posted 24 July 2011 I've got no doubt we'll strengthen next week; Sven is back in the country, and two goalless games in Austria have put into even sharper focus the need for a decent centre-forward.

I figured that as well. Let's hope he gets onto it straight away this week.
shiv Posted 24 July 2011 Posted 24 July 2011 Sven knows the transfer market inside out, he has addressed our defense and he will find a player to strengthen our attack Agreed. Defense was clearly the priority. The question is, who will he bring in? We'll have to wait and see I guess!

Do these games show the need for a striker or the need to get our team, midfield esp, going forward in such a way as to create chances? I watched 2nd half of Bursaspor game and we were just long-balling all the time, nothing constructive through the midfield. Have just seen a comment on the valencia match which implies it was much the same. To what extent do people think it was the lack of a striker making the right runs or a lack of imagination in the midfield?
foxes2011 Posted 24 July 2011 Posted 24 July 2011 we had lots of loans in last season if you look at all the loan players we have brought in and that have now gone we actually havent really signed many

I think ou midfield can blow hot and cold. When Wellens is at his best, the team plays well, but when his form dips, i found that Yuki and King seemed to be a bit anonymous last season. I think Danns will be very good for the midfield but I might be inclined to look for something on the wings.
Bryn Posted 24 July 2011 Posted 24 July 2011 We still need two players, a winger and a striker. With those two we're a top side, without, we'll struggle.
googie Posted 24 July 2011 Posted 24 July 2011 We still need two players, a winger and a striker. With those two we're a top side, without, we'll struggle. Really dont think we will struggle even if we dont sign any1 else.Rock solid at the back.Struggle? Think on ..........
accessory Posted 24 July 2011 Posted 24 July 2011 We still need two players, a winger and a striker. With those two we're a top side, without, we'll struggle. At the moment, we have Vassell, Nugent and Gallagher as the first-choice front three, with Waghorn, Dyer, Howard and Schlupp as cover, N'Guessan and Kermorgant will be moved on. We're probably just one striker away, with maybe another midfield reinforcement needed.
Nunny Fox Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Really dont think we will struggle even if we dont sign any1 else.Rock solid at the back.Struggle? Think on .......... Not saying this will be the case at all but, the season we got relegated we had one of the better defensive records in the league but couldn't score. I Do think we need a striker at least to challenge for the tittle which with the money we are spending is clearly the aim.

Nugent, Vassell and Waghorn will be the chosen regulars with Howard and Schlupp will be the bench warmers who get the odd appearance. One striker signing might change all that then it may be bye bye Howard to perhaps Sheffield Wednesday I think. N'Guessan and Kermorgant, both ironically taken on by Pearson, will be shifted on to other clubs, think that's a nearly a certainty.

What makes you think this when Gallagher was only used as one of the front 3 at the end of last season, while Waghorn started from the bench? I think the front 3 will be Vassell, Nugent, Gallagher until we get our new striker. I'm fairly sure Waghorn, Dyer, Howard and possibly Schlupp will usually start on the bench.
Bryn Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Struggle to achieve our goals, not struggle as in struggle down the bottom end of the table.
North-LondonFox Posted 25 July 2011 Author Posted 25 July 2011 Struggle to achieve our goals, not struggle as in struggle down the bottom end of the table. I agree, there's no way we'll struggle to be top half with our defence, but I think we could struggle to really challenge for the title without reinforcements.
Rustyfox Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 I think we need to buy forward players that are going to suit our system (4-3-3 seems the obvious decision). Howard is a target man that provides support for a little striker (fryatt) with his flick-ons etc, but won't fit the bill of our central striker this yr. Vassell isn't suited to playing on the right. Waghorn is in the same mould - direct and prefers to play down the middle (with a supporting striker). I think if we get Maynard you'l see Nugent move out to the left, Maynard down the centre and Gallagher over on the right (although Routledge would be tailor-made for that position in our team). Im also not surpised to see Sven after another CM. I remember him saying in a Q&A last yr that he thinks we're not physically strong enough in the middle of the park
foxes2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 i sware i heard something on skysport news about the fact cms actually didnt sign for us because he didnt agree with the transfer policy or something like that, anyway thats old news now just thought id post because of the subject on the thread about it.
Collymore Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 No - i do think they have decent quality, but we have already signed a RB in Peltier so why sign another? Its just an opinion. I just figured some signings of players who can really change games might be needed - those who can turn a game with a moment of magic etc - not sure we've really added that sort of quality - do you think we have? I totally agree, we should be after the likes of Ashley Cole, Puyol etc..... Have a word pal
North-LondonFox Posted 28 July 2011 Author Posted 28 July 2011 I totally agree, we should be after the likes of Ashley Cole, Puyol etc..... Have a word pal That post doesn't relate to anything else that's been written on this thread, by me or anyone else. No idea what you're talking about.
Collymore Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 That post doesn't relate to anything else that's been written on this thread, by me or anyone else. No idea what you're talking about. Well you've said that we are going for quantity rather then quality and we need a big signing. If fulham and Liverpool players are quantity, then I'd sure like to know what your interpretation of quality is?
North-LondonFox Posted 30 July 2011 Author Posted 30 July 2011 Well - the signings continues and there is no doubt that we have improved our squad massively, but the lack of creativity and goal scorers is a nagging concern. Not that I am complaining because we have the best squad that i've seen at City since the O'Neil years. Three things to add: - 1) we desperately need to trim the squad now and release some of the deadwood 2) if we sign Nicky Maynard then I think we will win the Championship - in some style 3) both of these need to follow after we put Real Madrid to the sword this afternoon COME ON CITY!!!!!
