Moths

Recommended Posts

Sitting out with a bottle of wine, totally chilled tonight with the outside light on, as usual loads of moths are flying towards the light. Just wondering in my 'half cut' state why they actually do this. When I was a kid I was told it is something to do with the moon. SENSIBLE answers please!

I walked into a dentist's office and say, "I think I'm a moth."

The dentist replies "You shouldn't be here. You should be seeing a psychiatrist..."

I replied, "I am seeing a psychiatrist."

The dentist says, "Well then what are you doing here?"

So I say , "Your light was on."

edit ; :D

i'd remembered the joke wrongly

What exactly do moths hunt?

Wardrobes full of old suits and stuff and they use the moon and stars to navigate to places where there are lots of old clothes such as Bournemouth and Littlehampton

People switching on electric lights confuses them because they can't read road signs yet , but there have been studies that suggest they are evolving into alternative means of navigation , such as following the Tena Lady lorries or the Stannah Stairlift repair men

They use the Sun/Moon for navigation (A strong light source far away so they can remain in a straight line). Once they are near a closer source they fly round and round getting closer and closer thinking they're flying in a somewhat straight line with nothing in front of them. Quite amusing really.

On another note, Bees use the sun for navigation, even at night. This must mean they know where it is even when it's on the other side of the world. Creepy bastards.

Had one flapping around my room last night/early hours of this morning. It was the size of a Pelican i tell you!!

We had the patio doors open all day yesterday, and by about 8pm there were about half a dozen hanging around annoyingly, so I fed them to my fish hehe
