darko2k7 Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 OS preview City head into the season's opening home game with two wins from two games in the campaign's earliest stages and will be looking to make it a hat-trick against Brian McDermott's Royals. With the eyes of the npower Championship on Sven-Goran Eriksson's new-look squad, Lee Peltier's second-half goal got the Foxes off to the perfect start at the home of local rivals Coventry last week. A much-changed side went on to follow that up on Tuesday night, when teenage striker Jeff Schlupp's hat-trick inspired them to a 4-1 win over Rotherham United in the Carling Cup. Peltier missed the win at the Don Valley Stadium with a groin injury picked up at the Ricoh Arena, and his expected absence at the weekend could see a debut for Ghanaian full-back John Pantsil against the Royals. Darius Vassell's red card in the opening game means he is still suspended, but with Paul Gallagher, Lloyd Dyer, Martyn Waghorn and the in-form Schlupp waiting in the wings, Eriksson is far from short on forward options. The disturbances in London this week meant Reading's Carling Cup tie with Charlton was postponed, meaning McDermott's squad should be relatively fresh for the clash with the Foxes. After reaching the Championship play-off final, the Royals lost two of their key performers from last term, in the shape of striker Shane Long and a certain Matthew Mills. Long completed a big-money move to Premier League West Brom this week, while Mills switched to King Power Stadium earlier this summer and will face his old employers for the first time on Saturday. Long was involved in last weekend's opening-day draw with Millwall, which saw Reading struggling going into the final 10 minutes 2-0 down. But the introduction of Frenchman Mathieu Manset proved a game-changing decision from McDermott - the former Hereford hitman scoring twice in a late comeback at the Madejski Stadium. Madrid_Fox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Was expecting this, Pantsil for Peltier and Schlupp for Vassell.
MikeyT Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Is this guy that's being interviewed on the radio for real? He can't even name any of our players!!

Walker Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 I'm personally very shocked Schlupp starts! Good luck to the lad though, hope the high expectations don't get the better of him though...
tcrofts Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Is this guy that's being interviewed on the radio for real? He can't even name any of our players!! "oh yeah, that guy who scored the hat trick"
Fox_in_spain Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Is this guy that's being interviewed on the radio for real? He can't even name any of our players!! That was me
FoxInWales Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 C'mon City, fancy a few goals today - Nugent to open his account with the first
sphericalfox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Looks like 4-4-2 to me It reads as 4-1-3-2 to me, I could be wrong. Fernandes in a DM role.
Madrid_Fox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 I'm personally very shocked Schlupp starts! Good luck to the lad though, hope the high expectations don't get the better of him though... Think he is the best choice to replace Vassell if he is going to play a bit deeper and wide.
Fox in the North Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 It reads as 4-1-3-2 to me, I could be wrong. Fernandes in a DM role. Good point
MikeyT Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 That was me You need to learn who our players are then!
Madrid_Fox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Kasper Pantsill Bamba Mills Konchesky Wellens Abe Fernandes Danns Schlupp Nugent Just making enforced changes. Same formation as the Coventry game.
sphericalfox Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Kasper Pantsill Bamba Mills Konchesky Wellens Abe Fernandes Danns Schlupp Nugent Just making enforced changes. Same formation as the Coventry game. That's more likely than my 4-1-3-2. Danns on the right, Nugent on the left and Schlupping up the front!
