Guest MattP Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 I'm not sure, Sven seems like a very nice person, the sort of person you'd want to work for while the man city owner was as mad as a box of rabbits. I could imagine the players weren't too happy with Svens treatment by thaksin Shiniwhatever and may have done something about it. Of course you would want to work for him, look at the average players we have had knock on the door like Howard and Oakley that have been rewarded with higher paid new contracts for pretty much nothing. If I played under him I would love the guy. I still dont believe the players would orchastrate a result like that in front of 4,000 travelling fans to get at the owner though (not sure what sort of a protest it is either? Surely a better way would be to go out win the game and dedicate it to the manager? ) If there are rumours Sven is to be dismissed I hope our lot dont go out and delibrately lose to Derby 9-0 to show how much they love him.
Basil Brush Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 He's spent more over the summer than any other manager in this league. His record in English club management is fairly mediocre and likely to remain so. As others have said, right now he's living on past glories. Thats true, the english game is like no other, its crazy with passion somthing Sven lacks maybe? Are the owners passionte like the fans, or do they just want the glory of owning a prem leaghue club? hmmmmmmm

volpeazzurro Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 He had the largest budget in Serie A while at Lazio and had a ton of quality players. All managers can get lucky at times , Peter Taylor has had a few decent jobs and Mcclaren won the dutch league. We really need a Malky Mackay, Brendan Rogers, Paul Lambert or Brian Mcdermott type of manger, one that knows modern football and is passionate (knows where the technical area is)!!! He gives players abuse when he needs to! I can't say whether its true or not but my Italian relative always maintained that when we got Sven as England manager, Sven's success with Lazio came with the previous managers squad and it's when he started to bring in his own players that it all started to go tits up, which is when he left.
Kent Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 I think it is very easy for all of us to say 4-4-2 over the preferred 4-3-3 at the moment. That is because we aren't getting the results we want. Sven has clearly assembled the personnel for 4-3-3 so it will be a while before rethink yet. I think we need to settle a bit and maybe our expectations drop a little. I think that the team will settle down and we will get stronger. No need to stress, we have a great squad and undoubtedly have money set aside for a striker. It's a good position to be in. These are my sentiments exactly. Good post. And for the record, 4-3-3 all the way...
stillwater Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 I should think you lot are the same wangers that where calling for MON's head when he first joined and we where playing crap. Get a bloody grip MON turned it around and so will Sven, you keyboard warriors fans realy piss me off. End of Rant!!!
Basil Brush Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Really? Well I like to think so, lots of men goto football and in pubs lots of pro teams, england is good size for a league, nice citys. Chinease love it, asians are not known for their passion, i would go as far to say there are all pretty ****ing dull compaired to our humour. this is why they love english football, they get off on seeing us big fat english lose our minds over a foul, they cant get enough
Winchester Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Not having a Plan B, wasn't the criticism frequently leveled at MON throughout his managerial career?
sheerclass Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 The thing that worries me is Sven confessed in a recent interview that he didnt know what his best starting 11 was and that he may never know! Am i pointing out the obvious but is that not the number one thing he is paid to do ? Observe the players day in day out , work on different formations and positions until he knows his best balanced team and tactics that will be most succesful for the club. If he has know clue what his best team is after buying 11 new players watching them everyday in training and all the pre season games we are definately in big trouble. He clearly has no idea though or why would he be playing such defensive teams at home with players in unfamiliar positions and making drastic changes (dropping 5 players). As much as i want to see Sven succeed the early signs are not good. I think the next 3 or 4 games will be crucial to whether he is to continue as leicester manager and im sure the owners will be very disappointed in making such a large investment and seeing not much to be happy about.
RoosterRussell92 Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 My problem with Sven isnt his lack of shouting/screaming. Diff managers have diff ways of working. Its the total lack of planning that appears to have gone into building a team for this season, we are 3 games in and still dont even the players we need that he should of been sorting out in June. How we can be sat here now still with only one first choice striker and no wingers to fit into the system he wants to play. It's absolutely shocking. I don't want Sven out like some of the reactionary lot on here but I find it very hard to disagree with this post. I've found his scattergun approach to transfers this summer quite concerning to be honest. Did we really need to sign 3 additional central midfielders to the ones we already had (Abe, Wellens, Oakley and King)? I think one of Fernandes, Johnson or Danns would have sufficed. Similarly, I really do not see why we needed to sign St Ledger. Hobbs was off the same standard in my opinion, and whilst not the greatest centre back in the world, he did have the benefit of being familiar with the club and his team mates. I think if you wanted to be overly critical, you could even make the case that the signing of Schmeichal was unnecessary (Lonergan was available on a free I believe and he is a quality keeper). Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with Kasper and I think he'll go on to be a true great some day like his old man. It's so glaringly obvious that we have needed at least two wingers with pace and the ability to beat a man for some time now, and some of the money he's slung about could have been invested on these positions. For me, this should have been the priority over the summer, along with someone to complement Nugent up top. That said, calling for the man's head after 3 league games is utterly pathetic in my opinion. Grow up and have some patience. I think a lot of posters on here need to grasp that this is real life, not football manager.

I think a lot of posters on here need to grasp that this is real life, not football manager. Spot on. The problem is people seem to think you can't question Sven without wanting him out, thats simply not the case. Someone on radio Leicester should have the balls to ask these questions. 1. If you are to persist with this formation do you think it would of been wise to buy 2 wide players who can fit into this system? 2. Do you regret not wrapping up a deal for a striker earlier as in hindsight it appears not only have we missed out on a couple but appear to be being held to ransom as people now know we are desperate? 3. Was there really any need to bring in an extra three centre midfielders when we already had Wellens, King, Abe and you gave Oakley an extended deal last season? Like I said, sacking a manager after 3 games is not the way to go, however surely even the most blind optimist must be scratching the head as to what the answer to these questions are?
Blinking Blue Owl Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 He's like a rocket there one minute gone the next . All top managers have there optimum point and it's that point that most people remember them. After Lazio he came to England and he started to fizzle out and start on his downward spiral bit by bit and the facts bear that out . By the time he was approached by us ie Top and co he was a busted flush but they wanted a big name and he wanted his last big pay cheque . And so it has come to pass . In Sven were are ****ed

No, Sven is ****ing shit isn't he? You could do a much better job I assume? Where's the ignore button people, never had to use it before....?
AoWW Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Yeah, because he wasn't England's second most successful England manager, nor did he perform a great job at Man City, only to be thrown at by the board (after which he was heavily backed by fans and his team). accessory Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Yeah, because he wasn't England's second most successful England manager, Indeed he wasn't. Sir Bobby Robson was.
Guest MattP Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Indeed he wasn't. Sir Bobby Robson was. he isnt third either. He wouldnt go ahead of Winterbottom and you probably could argue Venables is above him on Euro 96. The joy of "modern football"

The joy of "modern football" Without getting into a complex argument, his wins to loss ratio DOES give him that accolade. So erm.... yeah.
foxes2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 we do need to give sven some time you cant argue with his experience but just see where we are after 15 games. then make a choice
volpeazzurro Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Without getting into a complex argument, his wins to loss ratio DOES give him that accolade. So erm.... yeah. But the teams he beat to make up that ratio were for the most part teams we should have beaten easily anyway. Admittedly some other managers haven't even done that. But neither do I go with the theory that there are no easy international games either. Under Sven we had some talented players who although not world beaters, might have got on better if they had been played in there most productive and favoured positions i.e. sticking Scholes out wide on the left etcl in an attempt to get all our supposed best players into onto the pitch instead of playing our best team which admittedly may have consisted of slightly lesser players getting a game, but in their rightful positions giving an overall better team balance. Was the side Sven picked against Reading not somewhat reminiscent of this i.e. ignore whose been playing well in preseason and against Coventry and Rotherham, lets just throw on all our new signings regardless. Mind you with England we still haven't learned any lessons under that dunderhead Cappello!
volpeazzurro Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 ]we do need to give sven some time you cant argue with his experience but just see where we are after 15 games. then make a choice[/b] He had more than 15 games last season and underachieved in the end with what he'd got because of his persistant tinkering.

In the same way Sven Ottke's record makes him the best boxer of all time. Tell you what. Give me the 10 best teams Sven beat with England in competitive matches.

I know **** all about england's national side - except it's full of vastly over-rated arseholes - let alone who they played under each managers reign but I can give you Germany & Argentina.
