JoeyB Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 Well basically i'm off to Amsterdam in 6 weeks time, with my mate, and were looking for a decent hotel to stay in, thats not to far from "Dam Square" but is in a decent location, and thats also a reasonable price about €170/£150 for the 2 nights. (or cheaper...) so any idea's folks? Cheers Joe

Cheers Joe Plantage 15 minute walk to Dam square, very simple and basic (and Cheap), stayed there about 4 months ago..very handy tram stop out the from. its benefits in order are... cheap cheap simple clean enough good location cheap. when i say cheap... i mean, it cost us 50 quid for a double room for two nights...Use trivago or last minute

21st Century Fox Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 I've been there numerous times and I highly recommend Hotel Washington, I stayed there a few weeks ago, its about about 30 minutes walk from the centre but its alot cheaper than the more centrally located ones, which tend to be expensive and absolute dives unless you're willing to pay ALOT more. If you don't mind sharing a room with a few strangers the Bulldog Hostel in the Red Light District is pretty good, its something like the 2nd or 3rd best Hostel in the World. Alot better than the name and location would suggest.

No lift, so we were on the 3rd floor and had to lug up n down but you get what you pay for, Also make sure you have a good read of reviews at Trip advisor, This is the BEST way to know about most hotels.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 funnily enough ive just been to Amsterdam, between Saturday and Yesterday (Monday) for a colleagues leaving do (in the job for 30 years) and 16 of us stayed in the Hotel Slotania which was cheap and cheerful but about 2 or 3 miles from the Centre (Quite cheap on the tram though)

If you're going to Amsterdam for what you should be going for, then you wont care much how clean the hotel is. There's plenty to do in Amsterdam so you shouldn't be spending much time in you're hotel, just look for the cheapest one in the best location is my advice.

Good location, just out of the centre but still close enough to walk to places ,although, i got lost many a time, all the streets look the same to me! Its a hostel but you meet some great characters there, its got a good happy hour, its even got a nightclub in the basement open till 5! Its fairly cheap and basic...don't take the website too seriously.

Its fairly cheap and basic...don't take the website too seriously. Stayed there too it's a cheap 1 star accomidation, if all you need is basic with great location and atmosphere this is your place. Agree some good characters and great bar. Within 5 minute walk to the main night club area and 10 minute walk to the red light district. Also love the sign that is in reception

Did you get your name printed on a bottle? A day excursion to Arnhem is pretty good too, if you've seen A Bridge Too Far and like that sort of thing.
