Look at Spains, who won the European Championship and World Cup - Lets look at their best team, Barcelona. Their best goalkeeper is Spanish, their best defender is Spanish, their best midfielder is Spanish and their best forward is Argentinian. Now look at our 'best' team, Manchester United. Their best goalkeeper is Spanish, their best defender is Serbian, their best midfielder is from Portugal (I think its Nani) and their best forward is, ok from England because its Rooney. There is a very big difference. Most of Barcelona's team is Spanish and came through their youth system. The thing is, we have may to many foriegn players. I'm not saying, lets not have them because some of them have been sensational and a joy to watch; the likes of Bergkamp, Henry, Zola, Fabregas, Di Canio, Cantona etc but there should be a ruling somewhere. Talented youth players arn't given a chance really because teams would rather look abroad.
Samilktray Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 If English Youngsters are good enough they'll play.
purpleronnie Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 But if premier league clubs are more interested in buying top foreign talent and fill their academies with top young players from abroad its bound to reduce the chances of english players making the grade.
THFC6061 Posted 22 September 2011 Author Posted 22 September 2011 63% of the prem are foriegn players? jesus thats so much more than everyone else. Up to the end of the 2010-11 season 1,289 Foreign Players had participated in at least one Premier League match since 1992-93. Altogether 2,992 different players have made at least one Premier League appearance since 1992-93. That gives an overall percentage of Foreign players of around 43%, but there has been a steady increase over the years and the last available figures - those of season 2010-11 - puts it up to 63%.

Well that's all subjective, isn't it? You could argue that their 'best' defender and midfielder are indeed English, at the minute.
accessory Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 If English Youngsters are good enough they'll play. This. The solution lies in teaching young kids better technical skills in schools and football academies, so they can compete on equal terms with players from overseas at youth or adult levels.
Guest MattP Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 But if premier league clubs are more interested in buying top foreign talent and fill their academies with top young players from abroad its bound to reduce the chances of english players making the grade. This. People have points abour grass roots though, most kids seem to be taught by fat bald headed morons who run the local pub side on a saturday and the kids on a sunday. Under 11's playing on full size pitches with eleven a side where the left back probably touches the ball 10 times in a whole match, it doesnt work, I wouldnt even have them off the 5 a side pitch until 14 years old.
