Ah well, will be for our benefit in the next year or so.

You can carry on producing young talent though, we've got some peanuts in our back pockets you can have if their any good.

We will never 'Unite', we are City !

Ps. I'm all for fairness and equality, but were not Exeter or Shrewsbury and should be completing ou own goals. This might improve the national team long term too.

Bollocks will it - this is short term greed & nothing less.

The young players are, the majority of the time, better served staying at their clubs and gaining some competitive experience first. Moving them on to top clubs for peanuts straight away will only serve to cause less players to make the break through, lowering the talent pool.

It will also cause some teams to just shut down their academies because they can't afford it with next to nothing coming in for who ever they produce - not only does this result in less youngsters getting a chance, it also increases the likelihood that a child with the potential to become a top player slips through the netting, simply because they were from, for example, Carlisle.

Even if we could be benefiting from this in the next couple of years, people should still oppose it because it's morally reprehensible and a stain on football as a sport.

Like Trav said if you want to hurt them target their sponsors. Its by far the best way to hurt any organisation, it happens all the time in the States with T.V. networks. Sponsors don't like to be tarred with the same brush and any risk of them closing their wallets would do far more damage than to miss 5 minutes of a game that has already been bought and paid for.

Posted

I agree we need more unity, I feel boycotting 5 minutes though will do absolutely nothing. They'll lose no money at all.

Posted

I'll join in and sign up or whatever, but boycott the first five minutes a match? No way. Anyway, I've always wanted to visit Upton Park and I am attending to support my team, so, I am not missing 1 minute (plus I'll miss "im forever blowing bubbles"!)

I do agree with the context of your argument though, but I don't think anybody wants to miss the first half in particular. I'm pretty sure Brian Clough once said that the Premier League would ruin football, and it looks as if he was right (again).

Posted

Totally agree with the sentiments but not the method. It will not change anything. I don't have the answer but would willingly do all I could to support them if they came up with a protest that would actually threaten the jobs of those greedy faceless bastards who now have control of our game. The only way I can think of is use the media to bring it to the national attention , lot's of physical protests and banner waving in front of the cameras at grounds perhaps ?

No club can sign more than 20 youth players at a time, so it's not like the big boys can swallow up all the young talent.

How many youth players have made it through from Chelsea, Man City etc in recent times?

Most of them end up moving on the cheap to smaller clubs anyway.

Whilst I am in agreement that the balance of power between the big clubs and the rest needs to be kept in check I dont see this issue as the big Elephant in the room.

The big one is TV and media contracts, if that is allowed to splinter then we will be heading the same way as Spain and most of the rest with a few very well off club and the rest on the bread line.

So far the majority of smaller clubs that have gone under have done so due to bad management, not because they are being starved by the big boys.

You think the PL will care what we do.

Boycott barclays close small acounts and state why.

Stand with banners outside the watch as the PL listen.

Barclays could reverse this in one meeting.

We could boycott a whole game like the PL will give a fvck.

Cancel ya sky for a month as of the first of Nov watch the PL listen then.

Miss 5 mins who would give a fvck NO one.

The clubs will still get your money.

IMO they should go away and rethink what action to take.

Infact you would not have to actually cancel your sky give em the 30 days notice required.

If everyone done it on the first of nov by the 10th it would all be over.

Even upto the last min you could cancel your notice.

Posted

Target Barclays as they are their sponsor. Protest outside their banks all over the country and see how long they want to remain associated. Write thousands of letters to Sir Dave Richards, who is the current chairman. Picket their offices at Connaught Place in London.

THAT'S how you do it... not by stabbing yourself in the eye.

what would make them sit up and take notice is if every football fan withdrew their money from Barclays and closed their accounts

Correct or as i put above cancel ya sky.

Thats the cash cow and tell em why your canceling it.

Sky will shit em selves.

How many years they tied up for No viewers = no add's= no Sky= fvcked PL 1-0 to the little boys

The for 2-0 the tv money can be sorted out more equal. :trumpet::scarf::trumpet:

Many of those supporting PL clubs will not even care or even be aware of this decision and I would guess that they make up the bulk of Sky subscribers so they're hardly likely to bother so again the impact would not be that significant.

It's a good cause but unfortunately this won't make a jot of difference.

Terrible attitude mate.

This legislation effects ALL OF US...shocking to think any vaguely bright prospect will be snapped up early doors. We'll never get to cheer on a talented local lad again, the FA are encouraging big clubs to poach them early doors...It's a big part of it for me having local talent breaking through - this would kill it off.

Clubs like ours often rely on the revenue from players sales too..

If we unite behind this one it'll be the biggest fan action ever seen in Europe and people will have to take notice

Get behind it, it effects us all!

Can anyone explain the changes in a paragraph?

Not having a dig mate - but amazing that most fans don't even know..The FA/EPL covered this one up until it was passed, disgusting on their behalf

To put it simply mate - The FA have made this rule to make it easier for 'big teams' to poach promising academy players early doors. They think the earlier a big club gets a promising player, the better he'll be in the long run. This will deprive teams like ours of ever seeing young stars emerging into the first team, they'll be gone long ago - and for next to nothing too!

It's an absolutely disgusting rule..As a Palace fan, we'd never see the likes of Zaha, Moses, Williams and Clyne who make supporing the team interesting (with them being local!) and provide the club with the eventual sell-on fees to keep us going

It's a right nail in the coffin for clubs like ours and makes me sick

That's another reason why this action wont work it's too soon, it requires more of a build up to get people on board not enough people are aware or will be aware of it by next Saturday.

While I agree, the FA and the PL have proven time and time again that they don't care about the fans or the lower leagues.

I'd hope wide-spread protests would have an impact, but the PL holds too much power over the FA due to the financial input it generates - look at the profit/loss margins for sky prior to them getting the TV rights and nowadays - and so if the PL want's something - and given they threatened to cut off academy funding unless FL clubs voted this through, I'd think they desperately want this - the FA will, 9 times out 10, be too cowardly/greedy to put their metaphorical foot down and say no to the proposals.

Personally I think Trav Le Bleu's suggestion is a better way to go about things, as I've already said money controls the actions of those at the top and forcing sponsors to remove their contributions will have a greater impact than the plans outlined in the OP.

However something does need to be done and, if it weren't for the fact I'm not going to West Ham (I refuse to pay in excess of £30 for a second tier match) I'd get involved in the protests.

As an aside, how's Tunchev getting on at Palace? great to see the lad playing again after the past couple of years he's had.

The PL threatened to withdraw academy funding unless the clubs voted it through - the clubs would rather have the small pittances coming in every now and then than nothing at all.

Do you think I give a **** about that right now?

It's now or never - either we kick up a storm with the proposed day of action or we take it on the chin and see a whole generation of local lads snapped up before they ever become Palace/Leicester players...

This will be the biggest ever fan action in Europe if we show unity and Government etc. will have to take note

disgusting proposals - time to make a stand!

No but I do.

Now then, again I agree that these are disgusting proposals, that as supporters we've got to do something but, while I agree with the principle, I highly doubt this idea will work - The PL are too greedy to make a u-turn, they've got the FA under their thumb and as for the government, will the tories really care about what the common person think, or go against something which benefits the big at the expense of the small.

I support the protests, I'm hopeful that we can do something but the cynic in me thinks that we've not got much chance because of the way modern football has gone.

Posted

The FA are encouraging Academy lads of any promise to be 'snapped up' at an early age - the thought process is the longer the kids spend with a 'top academy' the better they will be. We will never see local emerging talent ever again

support the movement, spread the word..

No ones disagreeing with the sentiment mate, it just doesn't seem the best way to go about it.

The powers that be will just sit there thumbing through the money thats already been coughed up to miss the first 5 minutes. Theres no consequence for them whatsoever. The only way to hurt them is through their pocket. Challenge their sponsors.

Posted

Who told the midfield about this then?? Because they seemed to not turn up for the game today, whoever told them told them the wrong date and the wrong length of time

This. Whilst there's a sense of unity, it literally doesn't effect them in the slightest.

To me this is an important and far-reaching issue.

So yes, i'm of a mind to close our Barclays account. Can't say I'm impressed with them as a bank or with some of their practices anyway. We had a claim settled recently after many a month of negotiation. They settled some of the claim in cash but gave us a voucher to spend on other things - at certain Shires-type shops of their choice.

Apparently this is common practice now. We went to some of the shops and the prices were scandalous. Even the ticketing labels were deceptive by omission. We contacted Barclays to say we were unhappy and they posted us a cheque instead. I wonder what arrangement the bank and the favoured stores have!

So no, I won't be sad to take my custom elsewhere if I can find a reputable alternative.
