TavLegend Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 We 'the 72 unite', made up of fans from the Football League are angered by, and at a loss to explain, the news today that the proposed legislative changes to the existing academy systems have been voted in favour of. In the current financial climate with the divide between rich and poor widening on a daily basis, Modern Football continues to be an exaggerated version of the overall global picture. THE RICH CONTINUE TO GET RICHER, WHILE THE POOR SUFFER. Lower league football is dying, starved by Premier League greed and excess. Attendances are down, and clubs will soon cease to exist, unable to balance the books to survive let-alone compete with the elite. The lifeblood of Football League clubs are their successful academy systems, some of which have supported and sustained clubs for many years, producing local, homegrown talent representative of the area and fanbase. Today’s ruling cuts this essential lifeblood at the arteries and will signal the death knoll, the final nail in the coffin for the survival of Professional Football outside the Premier League. In response we are calling for action from EVERY FAN at EVERY MATCH on Saturday 29th October 2011 to UNITE, rise-up and fight for the very existence of their clubs. It’s NOW OR NEVER we must met the Premier League and FA know we will not be trampled on. EVERY FAN, EVERY GAME – BOYCOTT FIRST FIVE MINUTES TO DRAW ATTENTION TO THIS AND SHOW THE STRENGTH OF OPPOSITION TO PROPOSALS [email protected]
Larry_LCFC Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Maybe im missing the obvious but how the hell do you boycott 5 minutes of a game? And more importantly with ticket prices against West Ham as high as they are, im not wasting 5 minutes. Sorry
HEGGSY Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 What happens if we score in the first five minutes
StanSP Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 How will boycotting Football League matches (even 5 minutes worth) affect Premier League, just out of interest? The Football League reluctantly agreed to the new changes - The Premier League said they would withdraw funding (£5m) if changes weren't accepted. The Premier League have effectively bullied us (FL) in to making changes and it's not on. A quote I saw today - 'The Premier League wants everything and they want it for nothing.'

If enough people come together it'll become noticeable. It's a stand before we move on to bigger protests.
TavLegend Posted 20 October 2011 Author Posted 20 October 2011 What are the changes? http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_7252955,00.html
TavLegend Posted 20 October 2011 Author Posted 20 October 2011 So far fans from Brighton, Tranmere Rovers, Crystal Palace & many more are taking part.
davieG Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 The trouble with these sort of actions the support for them is going to be minimal because people don't want to miss parts of the game. If they did all support it the consequences would be missing the best part of 15 to 30 minutes and if they don't you'll just get just a handful and those you're trying to influence will think no one really cares. Think about it we're playing West Ham with a full house predicted circa 31000 fans if they all did what you ask it could take one hell of a long time for them all to get in, the idea is doomed to fail for one reason or another.
Tommeh Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Can recall a few London aways where we've stumbled in 5 minutes late after a decent session before hand and undrestimating a tube journey. This shouldn't be a huge problem to achieve at West Ham. Good luck with it though it's an absolute joke and about time fans stand up and be counted else it's true, the lower leavels won't have much more distance in them.
pSinatra Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 I wish you all the best, but can't help feeling that it will not be supported as well as you would hope for........for the same reasons DavieG has pointed out. I have feared for the fate of football for many years.........but it's death seems to be accelerating at a disturbingly quick pace. It is an absolute disgrace!! I don't see how poaching children from local youth academies is good for football in any way & certainly won't make the national team any more likely to ever win anything. A local Leicester lad taken from us on the cheap, going to one of the 'big' clubs...........who will never make it into the first team as he unable to compete for places against foreign imports?? It seems that their only justification is in "producing better talent for our national side and this is a move forward." Leicester will always come before the national team. The Euros & the World Cup are merely disappointing distractions from what is most important to me.........my club.
Vacamion Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 I once attended a game at Hamburg where they did this at one end of the ground, it was excellently supported and it made a real impact. I think it was in protest at the team's previous performance which ended in heavy defeat. It can work, but only if well supported and co-ordinated. Shame on the Prem.

They said that to justify creating the PL I haven't seen the National Team win anything since or looking likely to apart from in the eyes of the Sun and Sky.
thybluefox Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 What a joke. Seems like cat 1 clubs will pay a little more for players possibly but that's the end of the positives. It's blatant that it's a crap deal for the FL because the only way the PL could get it through was to blackmail clubs with the threat of cutting funding.
yorkie1999 Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 You'd be better off everyone singing " if your watching on the telly, you're a c**t", if you want to make a protest. That would screw up sky
LCFC BEAST Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Could we not boycott this Saturday instead? Rather miss 5 minutes if Millwall than West Ham...
Father Ted Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Does anyone have a list on which clubs voted for and against? Disgusting proposal. Chuck in the 'scrap relegation' debate and the Premiership is quickly picking up a bad reputation. I would love it if some of the bigger clubs, particularly Chelsea, went bust. The beautiful game is turning ugly.
The Doctor Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 It's a good cause but unfortunately this won't make a jot of difference. The sooner the FL clubs break away from the prem and leave that bloated corpse to rot on its own the better
Donut Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 I couldnt give a **** what the cause is im not missing 1 min of any game.
eye666 Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 You'd be better off everyone singing " if your watching on the telly, you're a c**t", if you want to make a protest. That would screw up sky I would love to hear this.
Kitchandro Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Even if everyone in the football league boycotted 5 minutes I doubt some influential people will see it as something that forces them to change their minds. Some fans missed 5 minutes of a non-Premier League match, it's no biggy to them. This won't help the national side at all, we'll still be producing poor quality youngsters who are fast but lack technical ability, it's not the system that's the problem it's our mentality.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Target Barclays as they are their sponsor. Protest outside their banks all over the country and see how long they want to remain associated. Write thousands of letters to Sir Dave Richards, who is the current chairman. Picket their offices at Connaught Place in London. THAT'S how you do it... not by stabbing yourself in the eye.
Jaspa Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Ah well, will be for our benefit in the next year or so. You can carry on producing young talent though, we've got some peanuts in our back pockets you can have if their any good. We will never 'Unite', we are City ! Ps. I'm all for fairness and equality, but were not Exeter or Shrewsbury and should be completing ou own goals. This might improve the national team long term too.
Houdini Logic Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 You'd be better off everyone singing " if your watching on the telly, you're a c**t", if you want to make a protest. That would screw up sky If you add 'or agrophobic or morbidly obese' I think you have yourself a hit
