Johnson

I think he is quality.....and in time could be as good as Gary McAllister, you don't need pace to play his role in the team,he is what most people call a thinking mans footballer, who can see space and create something out of nothing.

Just wondering if everyone has pulled their noses out of his arse yet?

He was average against Watford, and distinctly average again today. I lost count of the amount of times he gave the ball away today. He can play a simple pass but so can the rest of our midifield. He's certainly nothing special. Much rather see Danns, Fernandes or Gally starting in the midfield. Of course that won't happen, as Johnson is a Sven signing so therefore is immune to being benched.

You are a ****ing idiot. You don't happen to be one of those muppets who phone bbc radio leicester are you?

1) He was our best player on Wednesday. I thought he was today as well.

2) He is absolutely class. He is composed on the ball. He clears up loose balls. He gives the back four a lot of protection.

3) Simple pass? He makes it look simple. Remember Neil Lennon? Was he shit because he liked to pass the ball 6 yards at a time?

4) As to how many times did he give the ball away today? ONE. I distinctly remember this pass in the second half going to an opposing player. I remember this because I at the time I couldn't remember a previous occasion in that match.

[and this is aimed at other criticism]

5) He is playing as a holding midfielder. His job is not to attack. If you still want to criticise his lack of attacking mentality - please can you explain why he is the only player who, when in space and outside the 18yard box, will take a shot?

1) Well it's already been said I disagree. Abe and Nugent would have been my MOTM, closely followed by Peltier.

2) I'm pretty sure he is supposed to be a creative passing midfielder, we already have Fernandes and Abe who were brought to clear up lose balls and protect the back four. If that's what we bought Johnson for as well then God help us, we need creativity.

3) Similar to my above point, Lennon was not supposed to be creative, so not relevant.

4) As I've already said, it's not just about giving the ball away, you can have had a bad game for the things you haven't done as well.

5) I really don't think this is true, I remembered him as a creative player who passed the ball very well. if that's not the case then it's another blot on Sven's copybook. He is being played too deep as is Wellens and it leaves a gap between them and King, Abe, and the strikers.

Anyway, he was very slow on the ball today and made very little positive impact.

Do you even know who Michael Johnson is? He has ALWAYS been a defensive central midfielder who has been praised for his passing and vision to create attacks from deep.

1) Everyone has their own opinions to motm - the three players you have mentioned did have good games.

2) Today and on Wednesday he was playing as a holding midfielder. My comment was merely pointing out that he does this job very well.

3) Point 3 was aimed at the first post in this thread by acooling08, in particular the derogatory 'simple passing' comment. His job is not to be creative. I was merely pointing out that the great Lennon built his career on 'simple passing.'

4) I was directly addressing acooling08 comments (I hadn't read through the rest of the thread. I saw the opening post and was incensed).

5) He is being told to play as a holding midfielder. As to my views on the midfield - it is a lopsided mess. Abe appears to be playing right midfield. We then have two central midfielders (Wellens and King) alongside Johnson as a holding midfielder. We didn't have a left side to our midfield.

There's no question he IS a talented footballer, but when we were 2 down today and everyone else was trying to rush it forward it seemed like he wanted to slow the pace of the game down which is exactly what people criticised Wellens for doing.

played 2 games in 2 years! i could personally see he was holding back, being careful and making sure he didn't get injured again! he needs anouther 10 games for me! eventually he should be the play maker with fernandes has holding with dyer on the left and vassell on the right! not going to happen though because sven bums playing 4 central midfielders in a diomond! which he wouldn't need to do if he hadn't signed 10 million central midfielders and no wingers!

He didn't do either very well today.

You can be defensive whilst having a creative side to you so I don't really get what your trying to say? I guess you need something to moan about anyway.

I don't need to have something to moan about, I have been given plenty to moan about today without looking for things that aren't there.

I'm trying to say Johnson played shit today, and decent but nothing more on Wednesday.

He's on the pitch to be creative, not to protect the back 4, surely? Either way he hasn't created much and he didn't really protect the back 4 today.

Didn't know an anchor man had to do that. Do you want him to wipe everyone's backsides while he's beating the whole team by himself?

Just because hes playing in front of the back four doesnt mean hes playing as a anchorman (which he isnt)

If Johnson played shit in your eyes today, how do you rate Wellens and King then? Supershit?

I think Sven is having wet dreams about Xavi Hernandez.

He seems to be determined to pick a passing, playmaker type at the base of our midfield diamond, first Wellens, now Johnson, both complete nonsense. Neither are effective defensively and both are making their passes in areas that barely threaten the opposition.

Just another example of shear ineptness of our management team when it comes to our setup and matchday tactics......:frusty:

1) Fvck off was he!!

2) Class? He may have been in the past, but he certainly hasn't been class so far for us.

3) I could make passing the ball across the half way line look simple.

4) He lost it numerous times. Another one off the top of my head, when he poked the ball out for a goal kick when he should of crossed.

5) He had 1 shot. WOW

1) True - I thought Schmeichel, Bamba, Nugent put in more effort and heart than the rest combined today

2) He's still finding his way into first-team football, so I'd be more forgiving

3) But you're not a footballer

4) He lost the ball less than Wellens and King and his passing is by far more intelligent and accurate

5) That's more shots than King and Wellens combined - and that for a holding midfielder.

Agreed.

I do think this is one of the reasons for our midfield playing so under par, Abe and Fernandes too far forward and Wellens and Johnson too far back.

I'd quite like to see him given a go in the Andy King role. His pass completion is top notch and I think he'd link the forwards and the rest of midfield up. He'd probably play a few more killer balls than King does at any rate.

All our midfield players are being consistently asked to play in the positions that suit them the least, it's so perverse it must be deliberate......

Agree with 2,3,4,5.

My point 1 was the source of motm today. I might concede that he may not have been our best player today but he was on Wednesday.
