We need another Taggart Posted 25 June 2005 Posted 25 June 2005 http://skysports.planetfootball.com/Article.asp?id=287378 Leicester City are ready to rival Aberdeen for Dundee striker Steve Lovell. Foxes boss Craig Levein is keen to add to his attack over the summer and could make another raid on the SPL. Reports north of the border claim that the 24-year-old is a target for Leicester, with his future at Dens Park uncertain. If Dundee fail to win their fight to remain in the SPL, Lovell is likely to leave the club after three years on Tayside. Aberdeen have already had an offer for the forward rejected, with Dundee wanting £250,000 for Lovell. Dundee warned The Dons to 'put up or shut up' last month and they have conceded they would be pressed into selling Lovell to raise finances. But while Levein may hold an interest, he could baulk at the sum Dundee are demanding for the former Portsmouth man. Any Opinion?
New England Fox Posted 25 June 2005 Posted 25 June 2005 We get linked with every Scottish player these days....
fosseman Posted 25 June 2005 Posted 25 June 2005 I don't think Lovell has anything to offer us, thanks.
step Posted 25 June 2005 Posted 25 June 2005 28 goals in 71 apperances, I wish connely or MDV had that to offer.
Mark Posted 25 June 2005 Posted 25 June 2005 MDV managed around that in the Scottish league, and i'm sure Connolly would better that, wouldn't be a problem, i just doubt this Lovell bloke will go to carry on that record here. Completely different story in the Championship, few strikers are going to do the same as they've done up there in their Premiership in our Championship, Crawford is a great example of that, 20+ goals a season striker in Scotland, came to England but couldn't hack it at Plymouth and returned.

I aint suggesting that they are better or worse than us but most scots premier team are better than english league 1 and 2 teams and I would rather have a striker that managerd to score 21 goals for a scots premier team than a player with the equivelent record in our league 1 or 2. Which is all we can afford.

Louise Posted 25 June 2005 Posted 25 June 2005 28 goals in 71 apperances, I wish connely or MDV had that to offer. 127564[/snapback] Connolly - 245/92 = 0.376 Goals Per Game (ie. roughly 1 in 3) De Vries - 110/35 = 0.318 Goals Per Game (roughly 1 in 3) Lovell - 151/41 = 0.276 Goals Per Game (roughly 1 in 4) (based on entire career, league and cup) Of course GPG ratios have very little to do with how players will perform when they play for us, as seen with Connolly last season. They also don't show the difference in level that the players played at...

Furthermore, given indication that he'll spend as much time on the treatment table as he will on the park that's even more reason to bring in another capable striker. Competition rarely hurts, it would also mean he can be given time to get over any injury and it will give Levein an easy way of leaving him out if he continues to malfunction. "Cover yourself every which way you can" always sems a good moto for a manager.

You certainly know they count when the damned things are missed. Connolly took ages to recover when he missed a penalty early last season and City suffered with him.

Hitesh Posted 26 June 2005 Posted 26 June 2005 Noone has pointed out the price tag Dundee want. Do we actually have £250k? I would be surprised if we had anything near that sum.

So with that his ratio would be 264/124 = 0.47 roughly 1 in 2

I don't know why they don't include that for Connolly i'd be pretty pissed off if i'd netted 30 goals in less than a season and it wasn't published!
