Smokin' Joe Frazier diagnosed with lung cancer

The former world heavyweight champion Joe Frazier has been diagnosed with liver cancer and is receiving care in a hospice.

The 67-year-old was given the news last month but doctors have not told him how long he has to live.

His business and personal manager, Leslie Wolf said: "We have medical experts looking into all the options that are out there. There are very few. But that doesn't mean we're going to stop looking. We'll just keep our fingers crossed and hope for a miracle."

Frazier, who stopped Jimmy Ellis to win the world heavyweight title in 1970, fought Muhammad Ali in three classic bouts.

He won the first, the so-called Fight of the Century, in New York in 1971, after flooring Ali with his trademark left hook. Ali was to win the next two. Their final brutal encounter, in Manila in 1975, ended when Frazier's corner threw in the towel. Ali said afterwards it was the closest thing to death he could imagine, and he had been close to quitting himself.

Remember the Ali - Frazier "rivalry" and fights...a time when boxing was (for me anyway) at its peak.
