connolly19 Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 One of my mates who works at Leicester has told me that Peter Canero could be heading back to Scotland this week. If this does happen how much do you think we would get for him and does this means we could be seeing some new players imminently?
Libertine Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 If it's true, I'll be quite sad because he seemed a good player when I saw him, better on the wing than at full back though. Maybe about £100,000 for him if lucky.
City Fan Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 I'm quite annoyed that Craig Levein has hardly given him the chance to play, always claiming he is injured when he blatantly wasn't. I thought he was a good pacey player and is good because he can play RB, LB, RM, and LM...... I would much rather us keep him, and getting rid of Jordan Stewart.
Mad Dog Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 Its amazing everyone has this impression of him being good. He's really not. He played about 5 games for us that season we were relegated, he didn't play very well either. The fact that Adams, Basset & Levein have all ignored him the last season should tell you he's not really good enough. We'll get a nominal fee for him of a few grand tops.
lush Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 Firstly, it would be a criminal offence to let him go, EVEN for 100,000, unless hes on stupid dosh. If he is of course, who would want him??? Secondly, hes not a left sided player. And thirdly, `city fan` you surely cannot be watching that BB rubbish? gee i know its boring without city playing, but theres a world of things to do instead.

Name me a bad performance from him??????
davieG Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 It would appear that not only was he not fit but he was significantly over weight. Do you think CL would let him go if he thought he was a good prospect, bloody hell he's having enough problems getting new guys in. I suspect he might go in exchange for one of CL's other targets.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 Last time I saw him play in the reserves he looked very unfit and overweight. He put extra work in last pre-season to try and recover from surgery but he just picked up little injuries throughout the season that followed. I wouldn't be overly disappointed if he was sold or part-exchanged.
Anish Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 I am slightly disappointed by this if it's true. Every time I saw him play he looked very accomplished and had a bit of skill and trickery. I think he got himself into a catch 22 situation for most of the season - niggling injuries saw him unfit/overweight but he couldn't regain full fitness without playing in the first team, which he wasn't given a chance to do. What makes it worse was that the likes of Gemmill, Wilcox, and Makin were selected more than Canero (even though they play in different positions) and whenever Canero got back to fitness he was selected for the under 17s and the Westerby cup, which was nonsense really. I'd like him to leave and further his career, and prove to people that he is talented.
BartonFox Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 He could be used as a makeweight in one of the following realistic deals - Falkirk for striker Daryl Duffy Hibs for striker Derek Riordon Kilmarnock for striker Kris Boyd Aberdeen for defender Zander Diamond or Russell Anderson or Kevin McNaughton
connolly19 Posted 27 June 2005 Author Posted 27 June 2005 My mate did say that he could be heading back to Kilmarnock, so Kris Boyd is certainly realistic!
Hitesh Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 I think that he is a good player and should be given a chance to prove himself. He is versatile and the type of player we need in a small squad. Especially if we get loads of injuries during the time when the transfer window is closed. Levein might be selling him to raise funds but i cant see us getting much for him. £100k is being a bit too optimistic.

Lee Morris can play on either wing and upfront as far as I know but he's no good to us when he's on the treatment table. I think Canero has got it into his head that there's something wrong with him eventhough there isn't but all the medical staff can do is take scans and x-rays and show him that there's no evidence of injury. He's now an unfit player and unless he's done some work of his own in the break to reach his target weight/fitness then he's going to be behind the rest of the lads from the start. The reason why players like Makin kept on getting in ahead of him was because he had a greater level of fitness if not ability. Canero would be no use to Levein if he was out on his feet by half time. Certain games like Sheffield United away I was calling for Canero to come in for Makin because he was shocking but after seeing Canero in the reserves I realised why he wasn't being given a go.

Some have problems of one sort or another right from the day they're made. Others just seem to run and run as if its all they ever wanted to do. I'm sure it could be a good subject for University research but in my experience if you end up with the former you might as well cut your loses as quick as you can and throw the cards again. Whether they are just unlucky or injury prone because they are never really fit enough from the beginning, doesn't really matter. They are no bloody use on the treatment table.

No team is going to spend £100k for him and if he is as unfit as you say then surely he wouldnt pass a medical.

He's had his injury problems, but he's been injury free for about 5-6 months. He's put abit of weight on, but footballers can easily get rid of that with 2 weeks intensive training. He'll pass a medical, the truth is Levein obviously dislikes him. Perhaps Canero called Levein a **** when he was at Kilmarnock and Craig was managing Hearts. It's all very odd and sad as Canero is a quality player from what i've seen of him, but if Levein had played him perhaps we wouldn't have signed Maybury and in my opinion Maybury is the best right back we've had in the 15 years i've been supporting Leicester.
PRIOR09 Posted 28 June 2005 Posted 28 June 2005 GET RID OF HIM!!!!!!!! NOT NEEDED COS MAYBURY HAS DEFINETELY GOT HIS PLACE IN THE TEAM!!!!!!!
LoneWolf Posted 28 June 2005 Posted 28 June 2005 your all barmey... i dont rate this canero atall.. i expected him to be good when adams signed him but when he played i was disappointed.. if he played all last season you would of had a diffrent opinion in him like ''ooo get rid of him hes scrap etc etc etc''

If he's been injury free for about 5-6 months and two weeks intensive training can get rid of his weight then why not in that 6 month period has 2 weeks been set aside for him to get rid of this weight?

It's not hard for footballers to lose weight unless they've had weight problems for years.
Hitesh Posted 29 June 2005 Posted 29 June 2005 Well his no. 2 shirt has been given to Alan Maybury so its definitly a sign.
