Saxondale Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 It seems to me that if you're English and you get a couple of starts in a Premier League side, you're pretty much in the England squad. This is a pathetic state of affairs. My question is should Capello be looking to the Championship more for the England side?
The Doctor Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 He can look wherever he wants, the problem he has is English players, in the main, aren't technically good enough. In this country we train youngsters to be strong and powerful rather than focus on technical ability - I ask you, would the likes of Messi, Xavi & similar small, technically gifted players have made as good a breakthrough over here?

NGoloMode Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 Who are you referring to? I can think of Adam Johnson maybe but he is England quality imo in a very good Man City squad. The rest pretty much start for their club.
Fox92 Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 I am not sure. I think Mark Noble is good enough for the England team, but I can't think of more players. At the end of the day, they play in the Championship for a reason. However, I have hopes for some players though. I think Adam Lallana could turn out to be a good International and Premier League player.
Corky Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 If he does look to the Championship and picks players from there don't complain about the lack of quality, because that's what you'll get.
AyewJoking Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 Capello doesnt need to look, he's off after the Euro 2012 finals. I think future England bosses should use friendlies as a chance to try out young, promising Championship players as over-rated Premiership players are too tired and their clubs would rather they didnt risk injury in meaningless friendlies. However, you play in the Premier League for a reason and its usually because you're better than whats available in the Championship.
