I am going to be annoying here.

Is a fan someone who considers Leicester "their" team.

I mean, im pretty sure there are more than 50k worldwide that consider us their first team.

And if at 50k you consider us tinpot, what are the likes of Carlisle, Yeovil and Stevenage?

500k sounds far more realistic than 50k I reckon more there would be so many fans still undetected through a survey

Think I saw that survey as well.

We get around 25,000 on a matchday. No way is that half of all the Leicester City supporters in the world, not by a long way.

We're well supported around the world with Foxiles and that, plenty on this forum in fact.

ah always wondered if a survey was done! 500,000 is great! we've got everything in place! just got a shit trophy cabinat! in my life time we've won two league cups and beat all the giants in the land! just want a FA Cup before my time is out! come on city

We have amazing support! We are still big! Despite the recent let downs! We'll keep going! All 500,000 of us!

Including the PAPS and the CRAPS. :P

Who's bringing the BAPS?

I'm hungry.

Would love a cup run this season.

It's not completely impossible, guaranteed Championship team in the Carling Cup Final this year and Cardiff making the 2008 FA Cup Final. I think three out of the four semi-finalists were Championship clubs as well that season.

You just need the rub of the green and a few good performances.

Not sure if I'm being stupid here but how the feck do you do a survey to find out how many people in the whole world support Leicester? Surely that'd involve asking every single person, worldwide?

Same as with any kind of market research. You ask a representative sample and use that to extrapolate to the entire population (in this case the world) with appropriate confidence intervals etc. However there are so many ways you can bias this kind of project (from the way you phrase questions to the way you conduct the survey, and billions in between) that I'd be interested to see more information on the background of this survey before I trusted the 500k figure.

STATISTICIAN AHOY

Following up from the above, the balance is always between asking more people in said survey (to increase confidence in the results) and the cost/logistics of doing so. In an ideal world you would ask everyone to get the best answer but that's rarely ever possible, so there are the statistical procedures to try and replicate this as accurately as possible with the resources available.

We don't have a small fanbase. The trophy cabinet doesn't have a league or FA Cup but three League Cups and some divisional titles, which isn't too bad.

We're not small and we're not massive. Somewhere in between.
