Deluded Paulo DiCanio

Recommended Posts

Swindon fan here. Paolo has tried the 'mind games' several times this season. Sometimes it has worked (against Crawley, Steve Evans said we're the Paolo Di Canio circus, Paolo said he'd never even heard of Steve Evans - we went there and won 3-0) and sometimes it hasn't (against Oxford, Paolo stated that their striker James Constable is a Swindon fan when in actual fact he is from Wiltshire but supports Tottenham) and he duely scored twice in their victory over us.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to it if I was the opposition. Paolo is one of those types who is loved by his own fans and hated by others. We had it to a lesser extent when Dennis Wise was (briefly) in charge.

As someone said above, if both teams play to their potential then you will win. That's a bit of a no brainer as you're two leagues above us. However, if you fall below standard and we play to our maximum then I can see an upset. We've already beaten Wigan at home and Bristol City away in cup competitions this season so it's not beyond doubt that you will win. You're still massive favourites though, obviously.

I would say we'll probably bring between 2,000-3,000. Normally it would be more but we have had and are due to have a lot of big games in a short space of time, including hopefully a trip to Wembley.

I'll be there, hopefully to see a decent game, and I won't even be that disappointed if we lose because the last thing we need is another game added to our fixture pile up.

Latest on tickets sold to Swindon

Availability: Town have been allocated an initial 3,500 allocation, which could rise to a total of just over 5,000 if required.

Sales: Around 2,000 tickets have now been sold to Town fans (9am, Monday)

Hi Jonlcfc,

Bit of backround on the sales... 2000 may not sound a lot but only became available to season ticket holders on Friday and again umtil 3.00pm saturday. Only on general sale to personal callers after the game and only by phone just today, so there will still be loads of demand this week as the match gets closer.

Not sure how many we will bring in total but it will be a significant contingent but with many tickets available many will have decided not to have waited for an hour after the game on saturday to buy theirs. Expect there will be another update after today and fully expect number to have reached 2500-3000 with 4 days still to go !

Looking forward to the game, Town fans are in bouyant mood at the moment with just one defeat in the last 22 games and wins against Wigan, Bristol City (away) and league 1 sides Huddersfield, who were unbeaten in 40 matches at the time and Exeter and Colchester both away.

Notice you are bringing in some new signings ... and have a game tonight. Bookies make you favourites as would be expected, but confidence breeds success and unless we concede very early on expectect the atmosphere from the Town fans to match the expedtation and history of the FA Cup.

This season in division 2 Town average almost 1000 away travellers per match, (Macclesfield had 38 fans at the game on Saturday - fair play to those that travelled ) and a couple of weeks back we had 1400 + at a midweek game at Barnet.

As someone else said Town have many important games coming up in the week, so cost is bound to be a factor for some, but £15 and £20 for a 4th round cup match is a great price... hope your fans don't treat it as a "non event" and don't turn up.

I never said i wouldn't be attending? i was trying to make the point that i'm annoyed that as a season ticket holder my seat has just been given up and now i have to find somewhere else to sit where the atmosphere isn't as good. I've already been to all the FA cup and Carling cup games so i treat our cup runs with as much respect as league fixtures. I also mentioned that i hope you sell more because if i have to give up my seat i'd atleast like to see it filled with a travelling supporter, As for the result only time will tell but we have a pretty good record when it comes to lower league opposition usually because we don't disrespect them by playing a B team as it were. :scarf:

Hi Jon,

No didn't suggest or accuse you for one moment of not going Saturday, if that was a misunderstanding I can assure you it wasn't intended. It was more of a generalist thing. Can understand you may be annoyed at having to move but assume you were aware of that possibility when you bought your season ticket...dunno , but I assume so and let's hope that Town fill the area.. time will tell :)

Let's hope that it's an excellent afternoon of entertainment.. win , lose or draw we are coming to enjoy it and the team will play to win, so at least you will see an away team from a lower division playing football, rather than hoof ball.

A draw wouldn't do much for our fixture congestion, but I'd take that. The County Ground has been a real fortress this year.

I was hoping it was away as i prefer paying £15 for an away fixture but now it's at home i hope it doesn't go down to two legs but if it does you'll have to recommend a good pub to have a drink in

Afternoon all - STFC fan in peace :)

I saw you signed Delfouneso this morning on loan - is he eligible for Saturday's game ?

I will also never forget that sunny day at Wembley - I know we won and I probably think about it differently to you guys - but that HAS to go down as one of the best ever playoff finals surely ?

Lots of banter on this thread hopefully this will come out on Saturday Delfouneso didn't play in the third round so as far as i know he's available including Drinkwater also.

Hi all,

Sorry to invade your thread with more opposition comments/questions

I am flying over Saturday morning to London for the game and hope to arrive in sunny Leicester around 1.30 with my gf.

My questions for you good Leicester citizens are -

1. Leicester is reknowned for its Indian restaurants. As keen fans of Indian food, can you please recommend somewhere for me and my gf to eat on Saturday evening?

2. Can you also recommend friendly bars in Leicester, or places to drink in the evening? Any areas to avoid?

Thanks in advance. I am really looking forward to visiting a new City and ground and I am hopeful of an entertaining game of football.

Good luck against the Saints tonight.

There isn't really any areas to avoid tbh if you are arriving by trian then town centre is full of bars that are neutral and away friendly closer towards the ground you've got two pubs near the odeon Cinema and also the Holiday inn opposite. As for Currys there are loads of fantastic places to eat get a taxi from the ground and ask to be dropped off on the golden mile. here are some reviews of some curry houses there.Meat/Veg Indian Restaurants

1. Jungle Club on Checketts Road, great family place and personal favourites are: Chicken/Lamb Tawa and Lolly Pop Chicken

2. Khyber Restaurant - 116 Melton Road, amazing food, amazing dishes must try Chilli Chicken, and Panner sizzler, great for both vegetrians and meat eatters.

3.Tiffin Restaurant - London Road, brilliant place, cannot go wrong with the food, once reowned as the best indian restaurant in Leicester,

4.Feast Of India - Old supermarket turned into a restaurant!!! A very big place with a amazing atomosphere, £14 buffet all day, eat as much as you like with all the flavours of india under one roof, a very busy place with lots of money spent on this place, this is a personal favourite, good for having parties here!!!

Veg Restaurants

1. Forget Indigos! they have very oilly dishes, go to Sakonis on Melton Road, again big place, lovely atmosphere and buffet, its very good value for money

2. bobbys restaurant - melton road, it has been there for 20 years, nice good quality food, very good in the heart of the golden mile

It was never a penalty mind but yes good game of footy overall

Couldn't believe it when I was watching final score when we were 2-0 up at Swindon, leave the room briefly, came back in and it was 2-2! I wouldn't mind a replay as it would give me a local(ish) game to go to. Though I'm not sure if I fancy our chances at your place as from what I can tell, your place is abit of a fortress.

One completely unrelated question: As someone who used to watch the occasional Reading game, I used to sometimes hear them sing about Swindon, is there actually any rivalry there at all? I'd imagine you haven't played them in years!

Thank you for your feedback Jon. I have heard good things about the Khyber so I might give this a bash.

Incidentally, we are staying at the Mercure near the train station. Is that fairly central for good bars? It seems very close to the ground and as our train arrives at 1.30 so that was my main concern, getting to the game in time!

You've got Walkabout bar a spoons near the station Etc the train station is right at the top of town. You walk out and to the right and you will be walking right into the Centre and as i've stated all of the town is pretty neutral personally i used to go into town a lot before games because it's a good way of getting ready for the match although these days i'm more of the get there 10 minutes before kick off type ;)

Fvck you. Shove that penalty up your ass

Ha Ha nice post Yojoe36 - let it go it was years ago -but you are right, never a penalty !!! Steve White will always be a hero down here for his flawless dying swan....

Basingstoke, not really - Reading always wanted to be our rivals but were never up to the job. With Poxford and the 2 Brizzle's we have enough rivalry - and not forgetting Gillingham (weirdly!!)

As of this afternoon we have sold just over 3,000 tickets, so hopefully will be a decent turnout - especially as we also have Southend away on Tuesday night which is more important to our season

Anyway good luck tonight - hope you get something off Southampton - although that looks a tricky one !

Love that place, the starters are freaking huge!

Oh and other other unique feature of our run to round three ... every team we have played, Huddersfield , Colchester, Wigan have the same home colours... blue !! What colours do Leicester play in ??? ah yes... .... :chant::scarf::thumbup: .. said we were confident ... the signs are there already ha ha !

Everton next ? I wonder if that's possible (but only if they get through I suppose )

No chance made you might as well be hoping for black cats breaking mirrors and walking under ladders. The pitch at the KP is amazing and so are the players on it ;) it will be a good game of passing and moving im hoping for a high scoring affair
