one in a million

That garbled thread about Andy King has made me raise a thread for one of the things that wind me up.

The foxes one in a million campaign to raise £150 000

Now it's not the actual campaign that winds me up because it's for some very good causes BUT so far we have things like:

under 18'S rowing challenge

arm bands being sold

Stringer doing a marathon

Pearson and Birch doing comedy style adverts to get you to donate via text.

and so on

All worth while things but what annoys me most is that we have a squad of about 30 first team players some on well over £20 000 per week yet seemingly donate the grand total of f**k all

last year Birches run raised about 28k which worked out at about a £1 for every man and child in the stadium but what do the players contribute to this? I would find it insulting if a player on £15k a week gave a pound!

In my opinion all these very well paid footballers at our club should lead by example if every footballer gave up just ONE days wages they would pretty much clear the £100k target and they aren't exactly gonna miss £4k when you earn £120000 a month.

so the players could make a great gesture instead of the club trying to get me to send a text, buy a wristband, chuck money in a bucket when it takes me and the majority of fans a year to earn what they do in a week.

I can't be the only one that sees this side of it?

We don't know what these players give to charity and personally I don't think anyone's got a right to judge.

I agree...

It's actually not the players 'fault', so to speak, that they get paid what they do.

Like 'Joe Public' it is thereafter their right to do with their money what they will.

And where does this stop?

Does the fact that Carlos Tevez getting paid 180k per week mean that he should become involved in helping to feed starving kids in Africa?

He could do, he might do? I have no idea. But there should be no expectation that he must do...

If Man City want to pay him such a ridiculous sum of money then that's up to them. Nobody can then dictate what he chooses to do with it

IMO.

Sorry if this causes any offence but how do you know that the player's don't make a contribution? Surely you are assuming they don't.

With regards to Charity you give whatever you can afford to give, no one puts a gun to your head. Any contribution irrespective of size from anyone of any wealth should be accepted, as it's all helps. Just because someone is on a large salary who is anyone to judge someone else's financial commitments. Whilst they may earn a lot i'm sure a lot of these guys have pretty high outgoing's in comparable proportion to most people.

The club should be commended for its contribution rather than criticised. Not only does it contribute financially but it also raises the profile of the charity and engages a large audience some of whom may not necessarily be aware of the charity or the impact even a small donation can make to somebody else who is less well off.

of course I don't take any offence it's about opinions and it's just me thinking out loud

of course I don't have any right to judge what players do and don't contribute financially and the birch puts in a great shift to raise what he does.

It's basically the fact that in relative terms to the money that is floating around the club the total of about £28k in my own opinion seems to me a relatively low figure when we have players who earn more that that a week

I personally do not give a penny to charity do to the leeches and parasites who live of this industry. Where money is concerned human nature rears it's ugly head and corruption is inevitable. It is much better to help the needy to help themselves to a better life by standing on their own feet. Sermon over !

It should be up to the Players to decide what to donate just because a Footballer at Leicester City is on £5000 a week does't mean they are loaded and can throw money away. Yes £5000 a week is a very large amount of money to earn but they may only earn that for a couple of seasons many footballers have short careers.

For all you know they may donate very highly to charity anyway and do charity work in their spare time it would be unfair to assume they do **** all

I'm almost "anti-charity".

There's charities for this, that and everything, each one taking funds away from other potentially worthwhile causes whilst still paying themselves a wage. If there were only a few well known charities that specifically dealt with different things - health research, famine, poverty, child abuse, animal welfare - instead of the myriads we currently have then I'm sure that they would be a hell of a lot more effective.

It usually seem to me that people only give to charities that benefit/affect themselves also - they set up a fund because a relative died of something. They couldn't have cared less before and sod anyone who's dying of something else! That, in my book, is not charity... it's self pity.

I'm with the OP on this one - the first team squad should be *visible* in their support of this brilliant cause.

My uncle died in Loros last year (one of the charities supported) - a dignified and comfortable end to a long painful illness - only possible because the people of Leicester put their hands in their pockets and give what they can to keep that extra level of support needed for such a place to exist. Many local people also give their time freely.

Shame that our players, wages paid for by thousands of Leicester folk - are not really *seen* supporting this cause as much as I would want them to - give a little back to the people of the city that gives them so much - I would like to see it myself...

Fair points made above about charities and corruption - I don't feel it applies directly to the Birch and his causes.

I would not want the players to feel obliged - just feel that it's a good way to help out - and because of their profile, all publicity helps causes like this

If you want the players to declare everything they give to charity, then I want you to do the same, in fact I want the amount you donate to charity per year as a tattoo on your forehead along with your wage so we can see what percentage you actually give, you can also get your extenuating circumstances tattooed on your face and any other justification for the amount you spend and what charities you give.

FFS, take Andy King and the illegible thread, Andy has promised to give some money to charity and did so last year too, well done Andy, but if it hadn't been posted on here, nobody would have known, so don't presume to judge the players on what they haven't done based on the fact they don't advertise every charitable act they do.

I don't mind the players keeping their financial contributions private, it would blow up in their faces I'd imagine if they tried to be more public on that, they'll never get it right I'd imagine

I reckon I give about 1.5 percent per year, needles give me the heebeegeebees, so tattoos are out for me - can I wear a sandwich board instead?

The first team have a public profile, my point is that they could be publicly supporting these local causes a little bit more than they are at the moment, putting the work of these local charities into the public eye. I don't see it hurting their training or lifestyles to do a few golf tournaments, attend a few events, auction off their kit, but a few more column inches in the Mercury, a few minutes on the local news, about these one in a million causes would be very valuable to these Leicester organisations that have to compete with the expensive advertising budgets of the big international charities

The club as a whole do a great job, some very generous support from the Thai owners, supporting the Birch in his endeavours, would be nice for the first team to get more involved publicly IMO...

Charidee tats. Like it. I'll give a pound to the one in a £m campaign for every City fan that turns up to the Sky Blue Scum game with an indelible (i.e. can't be rubbed off, ever, never) tat of the Charidee they support on their forehead. I'll be outside the Fanstore (AKA club shop) at 2pm with a bucket.
