Happy Fox Posted 29 February 2012 Author Posted 29 February 2012 So, a striker whose got three in the Championship is gonna score lots in the Prem? What sort of logic is being suggested there then? Anyway, enough already.. I'd like to see young Schlupp a go was the point I'm making. He scored goals for Everton right or am I wrong, the thing we shouldn't forget is that this is his first experience of championship football, so it was always going to be difficult for Beckford to hit the ground running, their are many factors why Beckford hasn't performed to the required standards, but with hard work which he seems to have now the job is half done and the goals will come.

If I had a pound for every time I'd heard that on here I'd have... £46 Seasons nearly over... How much longer is needed to 'hit the ground running?' lol You are a card mate...

I was just trying to offer some suggestion why Beckford hasn't performed as I said before you cannot write him off just yet this is his first season with us cut him some slack, he has performed recently and this is due to a change in work ethic which NP has instilled into the squad. i imagine NP still wants a striker as he did pursue Billy Sharp in the January transfer market to no avail so come the summer he will bring a striker in for competition with Nugent and Beckford.

I think this post sums up exactly what I'm trying to say. Why does Beckford have the kudos he seems to have on here? And why 'cut him some slack'? Beckford was signed at no small cost to score goals. He hasnt done. His goal tally has been one of the fewest of any attacking player in the division. He's actually one of the main reasons IMO we aren't nearer the play offs. Harsh, but true I'm afraid. I don't want any player to fail, but fail he has. I wanted him to come good THIS season, not next or the one after. For some reason people remain patient with him. Think about it.. 3 goals all season and 2 assists. Good enough to get us promoted? Not on your nelly!! Anyway, I seem to be relatively alone in this view, so I'll stop for fear of mass retribution.. Anyway, this is a Schlupp thread... And I'd love this boy given some game time.. Up front with Nuge.
Guest Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 I'd play Nuge and Schlupp up front too. Keep Becks for the FACup.

Judge the lad on his current form and his growing understanding alongside Nugent. You might not rate him but he shouldn't be dropped for a 19 year old whose just come back from injury who is unproven. If Beckford's form drops and Schlupp has a positive impact from the bench, then fair enough. The way I see it, you dislike Beckford and it doesn't matter what he does as you'll look past any achievements to point out his horrific start to his Leicester career.

No doubt he underperformed at the start of the season, but he's come on leaps and bounds since then. To say he should have been scoring goals as soon as he got here is a little crazy imo, I get the feeling he was completely forgotten about when he was at Everton, that season in the premiership did him no favours whatsoever.

I genuinely have no dislike for any of the city players. I don't know them personally. What I don't get is that people continue to rave about a striker who has got three goals and two assists all season. It's no longer a 'start' to his Leicester career, it's now well established. If he begins to do what he's paid for ie score goals, I'll better understand 'Beckford love'... To date, I don't understand how anyone can see that he's been nothing other than a flop. As I said before, Darius Henderson at Millwall! has scored four times as many league goals this season as Becks. 34 yr old Jason Roberts has equalled Becks total for the whole season in 4 on-loan games. I don't consider myself to be harsh on Beckford at all... Look at the figures! I think most people, for some reason, are incredibly blinkered about him... Similar in fact, to how most were about Sven last season if truth be told. He can't hold the ball up, he's rubbish in the air and to keep on stating he's somehow 'gelled' with Nugent is factually wrong. Two assists for the season does not imply a striker who is continually 'setting up' his partner. However, he's a City striker and if he suddenly becomes prolific I'll be a happy man. How long do you give this terrible strike rate? I dunno.. Let's see what Nige does. Ps... With the stick you have given Wellens you're hardly one to post the last paragraph....
ScouseFox Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 Manipulating facts to suit your argument is getting boring, mate. You're boring. You say 3 league goals all season, Flair's raised you 6 goals in his last 9 games in all comps. Not to mention vastly improved work rate and creating a number of important goals for teammates with direct assists or clever play. Glass half full or half empty? Want to write him off because he was shit a while ago, or congratulate him on recent good form and hope he kicks on? Obviously it's up to you, but stop trying to convince everyone else how shit he is when clearly since Forest at home, and a few games before that without any reward, he's actually been pretty good.

Neither... I want another goal scorer at the club who is consistently scoring goals over the course of a season. If we had had such a player this season, who had got as many goals as Nugent, or anywhere near his tally, we'd have been much nearer the play offs. As I've said time and time again... Maybe you should read threads through before you get personal? I KNOW that Beckford is trying harder. This is the minimum expectation of a supposedly top striker at this level who was signed for a few million quid and is earning big money. But he's here to score goals on a consistent basis, not to ride on the wave of one excellent performance against a very very poor Forest side on the night. Finally, I've continually said I hope he proves me wrong... We'll see. No need for the personal slagging just because you disagree. Becks has failed so far this season IMO. I stick by this.

So if 6 goals in 9 goals, coupled with numerous assists isn't him scoring on a consistent basis, what is? Do you expect him to go back in time and score a few more goals in November and December?

Yes, he was sensational on the night but he was up against a mickey mouse defence, devoid of confidence. Now then.... If he goes on to start to score in the league my glass will once more become half full, in relation to Beckford. I don't want to see any player fail at the club What I do want to see is City mounting a promotion push. With a player consistently scoring goals to give us half a chance. If that's Beckford then all well and good... But it's not been to date. Which is a shame because most on here thought he'd fire us to success THIS SEASON.. or at least make a big contribution. But he ain't done.
sphericalfox Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 How did this thread turn from discussing Schlupp's excellent extension to his contract to a debate about Beckford, and the agenda to have him lynched despite his excellent form...... oh I see.

Criggers Posted 1 March 2012 Posted 1 March 2012 I doesn't matter who was up front for the first half of the season as our midfield has been piss poor for the majority of the season. We'd be also be a lot nearer the play offs if our defenders had remembered how to defend. Glad Schlupp is signed up, he looks Rilke he'll be a decent player for us and you can't beat having a good choice of strikers whatever division you're in.
