All the highlighted players had international caps to their name and had played at (arguably in Bamba's case) a higher level you can add Vassell and Ricardo to that. Kasper and Beckford had both played in the Prem and had big names. Mills was considered the best CB in the league, St Ledger was another international. For an average championship club that is quite galactic, with a galactic outlay of about 15 - 20 million, and that is why we were tipped to win the league at the start of the season.

All of that is without mentioning the loanee debacle of last season.

Give me signings like Marshall and Drinkwater any time, as someone highlighted before the similarities between these signings and those of Lennon, Izzett and Savage, young hungry players with a point to prove, and bring them in a couple at a time, I am so sick of seeing us buy 10 players in a transfer window it just doesn't work.

Obviously not all Sven's signings have failed, but his spending policy was one of a mini galactico, if you are still at Uni you may be a little too young to remember the Derby Dream Team of the early 90s, similar type of thing with a similar level of success.

Yh I prefer having the younger more hungry players like Pearson does it, sven's championship galactico's was a team put together to try get instant success, and @haydos ...I didn't mean galactico's as in literally Top top players but we paid a lot of money for loans wages and some fee's and a few big name players last year and in the summer so it was a 'mini galactico' revolution... Let's just stick too the young guns and nigels way:) Pearson has whacked the likes of Beckford in shape though and SSL ...weldone Nigel.

Ben Marshall has a key role to play in Leicester City's vital run-in as they bid for a Championship play-offs place, according to manager Nigel Pearson.

The 20-year-old winger has impressed Pearson with his performances in an attacking midfield role in recent weeks, and the City boss said the £1million signing was now growing in confidence and adjusting to the demands of the Championship.

Marshall, signed from Stoke in January, scored a cracking goal in the 5-2 FA Cup defeat at Chelsea and produced another impressive cameo as a substitute at Blackpool last week.

He started in a central attacking midfield role against Hull on Saturday and scored with another impressive long-range strike in the 2-1 victory.

And he continued to pull the strings in the 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

"He is looking more and more confident," said Pearson as he prepared his side for tomorrow's trip to Peterborough.

"He created some very good attacking moments in both halves (against Forest), and looked the most likely person throughout the game to create something.

"In the first half he had a couple of chances he created for himself, and the keeper made one very good save. That was another positive for us.

"He is an intelligent footballer and gets himself into some good positions.

"The goal he scored on Saturday against Hull came after he took up a very intelligent position.

"Forest did defend very deep and really made the central area compact and flooded the midfield. It made it very tough to find space in there."

Marshall is likely to continue in central midfield, but Pearson said his ability on both flanks gave him plenty of attacking options.

"He is versatile," added Pearson. "The role he is playing at the moment suits him very well.

"When he was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday he played a lot of the time on the left cutting in, and you can see why.

"Likewise, when we played him on the right towards the end against Forest, you can see he is very comfortable in terms of being an orthodox right-winger.

"The important thing for me as a manager is that I have a player who is mentally prepared to play in a number of positions, but also versatile technically to be able to do that.

"That is great for us and that bodes well for the future, without putting too much pressure on him because he has only been here since January.

"He is a young player who is finding his feet in the Championship, but I think he is becoming more confident through the performances he is putting in. He will get a lot better for us."
