Les-TA-Jon Posted 11 April 2012 Posted 11 April 2012 I don't think goals are any problem at the minute If you look at our "first team": Schmeichel - 0 Konchesky - 2 Morgan - 0 Bamba - 1 Peltier - 2 Dyer - 4 Drinkwater - 1 Danns - 5 Marshall - 3 Nugent - 15 Beckford - 8 (that's just league goals) That's also 41 of our 62 league goals scored by the "current" team. So thats 21 league goals scored by players "not in the team" - with Gally contributing over a third of them (8). And with Nugent and Beckford contributing 23, just over a third of our total goals. It's a real shame we missed out on Maynard in the summer....
RumbleFox Posted 11 April 2012 Author Posted 11 April 2012 That's right, get snide in the face of a genuine argument, I can see why you normally stick to cock jokes. This is what narks me about some of the posters on here, you get so used to mindless moaners that you get entrenched whenever a real bit of criticism pops up and you just jump on the defensive. Gallagher is a tidy penalty taker and of course that needs to be taken in to consideration, but that wasn't really the point of your thread was it? And it's not really what people are talking about, for the most part, when they look at their midfielders contributing goals. What should be looked at is who's stepping up to score during play, not who is essentially being gifted a near "free" statistic off the back of a refs decision. Or else we're really claiming that Gallagher's potency last term was really comparable to King's? Hi there and apologies for the snide remark. Truth is I don't have much going on upstairs and have been described on more than one occasion as "an alright guy but **** me he's a dullard". I tend to revert to criticism and defensiveness on here because A: I'm quite pathetic and B: It's anonymous so I can act harder than wot I am in real life. I take your point and that is your opinion it is just that I do not agree with it and my initial point was that we potentially have 30 goals between King, Marshall and Gally next year. I did not say that Gally's goals were from open play or that his were better than King's or he was a better player I simply said that he has ten goals from midfield this season which is true. He has ten goals and he is a midfielder? Also, he got over ten last year too so to claim that he may get ten again next year seems sound to me which is all I was saying. He is capable of scoring ten in a season? I understand your point and I agree that the ability to score from open play is probably a more desirable attribute but the reason I throw my toys out of the pram and revert to snideness is not simply that I disagree with your point or that I have no answer to it just that it seems unnecessary. This was clearly an optimistic thread (hey, I am a simple lad and like to smile) and the team is finally threatening the play off places and it just seems a little sad to go "how many of Gallagher's "goals from midfield" were actually direct shots from set pieces?". Anyway, sorry if I caused any offence.
cc_star Posted 11 April 2012 Posted 11 April 2012 Was unsurprised to see this descend into a Gallagher debate Think he's got 9 goals so far, majority from open play, created quite a few too... All of this whilst he's either been a bit-part player or playing injured. Not too shabby IMO Yes, he's far from the best tackler & he may even bottle what some people think are 50:50's, but how many technical players do you know who put it about like the team hardman? A good team is all about a good blend, I think he does a good job at pressing and forces them to make an early pass, whilst he's good when we're on the front foot. I hate Gally, all he does is score goals & create them I just wish his corners weren't so shocking. With regards to a scoring midfield, yes... it's relatively pleasing but given that we've got two 20 league goal a season forwards who are going to fall some way short, it's a good job we've got others who can score.
Captain... Posted 11 April 2012 Posted 11 April 2012 The actual stats to clear up any debate: In the league: 17 starts 8 sub appearances, scored: 3 penalties 1 direct free kick, 4 goals from open play Assists: 3 shooting stats: 19 shots on target, 14 off target 3 hit the woodwork. Compared to Marshall: 8 starts 4 sub appearances, scored 1 direct free kcik, 2 goals from open play, assists: 2 shooting stats: 8 on target, 4 off target, 1 hit the woodwork. Gally has played more or less twice the number of games as Marshall, scored twice the number of goals from open play, they both have 1 direct free kick to their name, Gally has more shots per game than Marshall, and Marshall has more assists per game. The fact is taking out Gally's penalties means his stats aren't that disimilar to Ben Marshall (current golden boy) as good as Danns, 5 in 22 (no free kicks and one missed penalty) better than Dyer, 4 in 25, Wellens, 1 in 36 and King 4 in 22.

Really good post Captain, as are most of yours (though it pains me to say that. I don't like admitting people are good 'n' that). Anyway I am annoyed that this has become another thread about Gally. All I aimed to do was point out that the future looks bright. Come on you Foxes. X

Yet people seem to love Marshall and hate Gally. Shrug. Gally's alright, I still can't understand why he gets slated so much. We know his all round game isn't fantastic, and have done for a long time. He bags us goals though, that's his game. Not too dissimilar to Kingy and a lot of people think we should get rid of him too.

Bluearmyfox28 Posted 11 April 2012 Posted 11 April 2012 Playing marshall and Gallagher together could be and i reckon will be very lethal!!
