Teeno Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 I'm surprised on the lack of discussion on this topic today. I feel immensely proud today after the result. The games will unite the nation and put the Pride back into Britain. The games will spur on aspiring athletes and show of this wonderful country to the whole world. It is also a wonderful feeling to get one over the French. You should all feel proud to be British today people. Smile and be happy

Matt Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 I ain't really a big Athletics fan so I ain't to bothered personally I know alot of people are happy, e.t.c, Thing is ENGLAND or Great Britain won't get much praise it'll just be London, Ok its the olympics maybe it should be held in the capital city but it goes back to the big arguement of - Why does London get everything and there rest of England get nowt...On the otherhand Manchester did get the commonwelth games a few years ago! I just hope we can actually get things to go to plan, and we don't cock it up its our chance to show the world we can arrange such things, hopefully we can build on this and eventually hold the World Cup here in the future! Thing i'm wondering about it its took the new national stadium how long to be built and its not finished now, so how the hell are we gonna finished the "Olymipic Village" in 7 years?!?! On a plus point for me, there will be plenty of well paid work for people like me in "the trade"! :thumbup"

TrickyTrev Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 I suppose taxes will be going up 133227[/snapback] The London Council Tax will increase by 39p over the next 10 years. The rest of the money will be provided through Lottery funding. So you should be okay. I am very excited about this, London is a wonderful place in any summer and I can't imagine what it will be like in 2012. It will also provide some investment in tube links and affordable housing which could come in handy as I will be 24 when '12 comes around.

Tomassi Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 My View on in the General football and Sport section All il say about taxes is Montreal '72 !! People living there still paying taxes for the games that happened 33 years ago!!
Knightonian Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 I think its great, and London/England/Britain deserved it. The last time we held a world event was 1966. Spain held the 1992 Olympics. France held the 1998 World Cup. USA held the 1994 World Cup and the 1996 Olympics. It would have been a farce if any of those countires had got it. The 1996 European Cup doesn't count as a world event in my opinion .
Hitesh Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 Im really pleased for London! Its gonna beneift a majority of the nation and i am backing it totally! i have done since the campain started!
Knighton Matt Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 i'm not really bothered at all but at least i've got 7 years to get excited and at least they may finally do something about london's transport system!
Ric Flair Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 I'm not that bothered at the minute. I can't get excited about something that i've never experienced before, well I could but i'm not on this occasion. Looking forward to seeing how much cash this country can piss up the wall on it. But other than that, I think it's fantastic and I imagine in 7 years time the whole country will be buzzing and it will be a nice place to live for a change.
Matt Posted 7 July 2005 Posted 7 July 2005 I'm shocked can't believe it takes us something like this to realise we need more tradesmen. Apparently due to the building of the Olympic Village the government are pushing people to go an learn an apprenticeship in Plumbing or building! But would you really be safe in the fact that people who had only just finished there apprenticeships are building a whole village? Its abit late for the government to push for people to learn trades me thinks!
