Guest ttfn Posted 6 May 2012 Posted 6 May 2012 Yeah I thought that, but United paid over £30m for Berbatov and he's not on there either... Tevez cost an undisclosed amount believed to be over £40 million and isn't in there. Also, Jonny Evans (free) has been playing centre back for most of the season and Rafael (something tiny) has been playing right back in United's first XI. All that said, it does go to show how much United have spent in the past. Also, I don't care how City have got their money; it's great for the league that there will be a new name on the trophy
MC Prussian Posted 6 May 2012 Posted 6 May 2012 Vincent Kompany £6m Surely this has to be the dawn of some sort of Belgian golden age at the moment. Vertonghen, Kompany, Hazard, Fellaini, Lukaku. Lombaerts, Legear, Carcela-Gonzalez, Mertens, Defour, Witsel, Nainggolan, Dembélé, Bailly... All in their early to mid-twenties. Shame they don't have a world-class goalkeeper anymore. I miss the days of good old Michel Preud'homme.

It's just if you actually look at it (and that picture helps, a bit), it's not £10 billion vs £10 million like Fergie was almost insinuating. It's a pretty close run thing, United have spent a lot of money, so have City. Such is life.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 6 May 2012 Posted 6 May 2012 Ferguson is a genius. FACT. Of course he uses mind games, who wouldn't, he wants to win the league. Players coming through the youth setup since he's been there? Too many to name. I'd say they didn't cost a lot. The great job he does for youngsters shipping them out to make them better then bringing them back when he could just bin them off, how many other clubs can boast that, he's given us a few on loan which only helps us. Hating a man thats done what he has is ridiculous IMO. Is this the joe Tebbutt? From Ibstock? I'm an admirer of SAF and Man Utd, but as my old man was saying, hes had a hell of a lot of players who hes made a bad judgement on. Whether buying them or them coming up through the youth team, none of them are a patch on the generation that saw Beckham etc come through. Macheda, Richardson, Wes Brown, Gibson, one of the Brazilian twins, and a whole bunch of others over the years. I'm not knocking what he's done, how could you? But his record has a few more imperfections in terms of signings and players coming up and through the ranks than what many realise
Captain... Posted 6 May 2012 Posted 6 May 2012 One difference is the time span over which they were bought, man city bought the majority of those players in the last few seasons. United have bought themse players over a period of 10 years. Regardless of the cost of the team that started city have spent obscene amounts of money no bench warmers these last few years whereas united have invested their winnings on building teams.

To be fair De Gea, Smalling, Jones, Young, Valancia, and Hernandez have all be bought in the last couple of years and that's over £100 million spent. Add to that the £7.5m wasted on Bebe last year and I bet he's not a million miles behind Mancini in spending terms over the last couple of years. In fact looking back it was 4 years ago, before the current owners came in, the Man City spent vast amounts of money, and on players that have nothing to do with the club any more. They spent over £100m onBelleamy, Bridge, Robinho, SWP, Given, Jo (for £18m!! Yes £18m!!!!!!). Last couple of years I doubt there's much difference between them and the rest of the top 4 and Liverpool.
Guest shearfox Posted 7 May 2012 Posted 7 May 2012 Mancini former Leicester player of course is the first manager I have seen get the better of AF... Maybe one day in my wierdiest dreams, Mancini will manage Leicester.. It's crazy about time someone put him in his place...
AyewJoking Posted 7 May 2012 Posted 7 May 2012 To be fair, Man City's money was the main reason behind Utd's comical defending in the 4-4 with Everton.
