Before I read that Dundee fans view I was not that excited about the signing like Shen, however if he is like what that fan said then I'm very excited indeed.

We need pace and determination upfront and hopefully he can give us that.

Ditto.

I speak to a Pompey fan regularly on MSN and when i said we were linked with Lovell earlier in the summer he didn't particularly give me an inspiring reference. Judging by that Dundee fans view and his record last season he seems to have improved and fits the bill - fairly young, pacey and knows where the goal is.

I'll check over the thread again to see if it's already been said but i THINK he was their captain last season. No real significance in that, but it's another leader on the pitch.

Full Name: Steve Lovell

Position: Forward

Squad Number: 9

Nationality: English

Jim Duffy went back to his former club, Portsmouth, to sign the young striker who has considerable pace and physical presence. Two footed and strong Steve relished getting regular first team football in Scotland. He was signed by Portsmouth for £250,000 from Bournemouth and spent spells on loan at Exeter, Sheffield United, and just before joining Dundee, QPR. He'd actually just started a three month loan at Loftus Road when Jim Duffy stepped in to bring him to Dens. He ended season 2002-2003 as top scorer and scored Dundee's first UEFA Cup goal in 29 years when he pounced to strike in Albania as 2003-2004 started.

That season though was injury blighted for the forward, although those who were there will take a long time to forget a memorable derby winner from the bustling Englishman. Steve is the club‘s top scorer so far this season and scored his first ever senior hat-trick in a league cup win over Forfar at Dens in August.

Some one to keep Morris company???????

I doubt it, it doesn't seem as if he's prone to injuries. That could have just been a bad tackle or something.

any idea on how much the transfer fee was for him ? because on june 25th on skysports Dundee was reported to be wanting 250,000 for him.

Leicester look at Lovell

Leicester City are ready to rival Aberdeen for Dundee striker Steve Lovell.

Foxes boss Craig Levein is keen to add to his attack over the summer and could make another raid on the SPL.

Reports north of the border claim that the 24-year-old is a target for Leicester, with his future at Dens Park uncertain.

If Dundee fail to win their fight to remain in the SPL, Lovell is likely to leave the club after three years on Tayside.

Aberdeen have already had an offer for the forward rejected, with Dundee wanting £250,000 for Lovell.

Dundee warned The Dons to 'put up or shut up' last month and they have conceded they would be pressed into selling Lovell to raise finances.

But while Levein may hold an interest, he could baulk at the sum Dundee are demanding for the former Portsmouth man.

We will never know because for some reason, most transfer fees Leicester are involved in are "Undisclosed". Anyone know why that is?

from a dundee fans forum

Will be sorely missed, especially next season when he would have ripped apart those defences with his pace, but alas the reality of relegation kicks in.

Good value for money at around a reported £75,000 when we bought him. If we turned down £175,000 from Aberdeen, i'd expect we got at least £200,000 for him(I hope because he is surely worth that).

Plenty of goals, effort and i wish him all the best. If he could add a decnt first touch to his game he could play at a higher level as he has great stamina and good attitude and good pace.

It's nice to see Levein bringin in another striker, which we badly needed. I think Lovell sounds promising, and I am quite looking forward to seeing him play.

Do you think Connolly's place in the starting line is now under threat? Most managers make signings and then play them in the starting line up, and with De Vries also being signed by Levein, it may well be that Connolly's starting position is looking insecure.

Not at all, connolly is best striker we have at club! If anyone is to sit on bench will be MDV but suspect Connolly will start with MDV with lovell coming on and causing havoc!!

I agree, but MDV will be a good player next year.

Look guys, i really don't think there is any point in trying to judge him before he even kicks a ball in a leicester shirt. I don't think a goal scoring record in Scots prem means owt. Apart from the two daddies, the rest of teams our pretty poor and you and i could probably score against em! Fingers crossed CL knows what he's doing and we've stumbled on a jackpot! I'm just still nervous about MDV, will he perform, won't he??? NObody knows....

That is a pathetic post the usual scottish bashing yet as a hearts supporter last year we beat braga who finished in the top 4 in portugal and basel who won the swiss league. How many championship teams would have done that not many is my guess. Your ignorance does you no favour. Who was 2 of your best players last season maybury and hughes from the joke league grow up you twat

 Ha i do apologise, i just get fed up with the Scottish league, there is no competition for the top 2 teams and i can't ever see there will be, it just bores me each week to check results and see Celtic and the Gers winning every week! Only gets interesting when they play each other!

Well said there are some promising players from Scotland but the reason why their are only two really well known clubs is possibly because of the lack of funding for most teams. They fail to hold onto their good layers which end up going to either Rangers or Celtic.

Why is it?

Yes, he struggled for the most of last season, however, he was on form towards the end, scoring 7 in 11 games.

He certainly has the ability to hit 20 in a season, as shown emphatically at Wimbledon.

The Lovell deal should be OK, still trying for Gerbrand too !

If we get Lovell only three players to go. :D:D:thumbup:;)

at the start of the season he has alot or pressure on his shoulders as he was the only half decent striker we had, when levein came, the presure was passed to MDV as he was the 'new managers boy' if you know what i mean. I think that determind playters can handle the pressure more because they just run round like idiots trying there haerdest and have loads of energy.... I can garuntee that connolly will be better next season, if not ill let some one eat my face bit by bit.

Connolly is definately our main threat upfront, i know he wasn't awesome last season but everyone i speak to, even a westham fan says he was quality and there best striker! I think he will start banging them in soon and his workrate is amazing, reminds me of the way dickov used to put himself about. I just hope we can find a decent striker to play along side him, MDV or Lovell? I'm excited and reasonably confident of a promotion push! Early days tho :S

Lovell asked for the weekend to think over the move after meeting bosses at the Midlands club on Friday.
