Daggers Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 Do I think Blair did the right thing sucking up to Gadaffi for the sake of our prosperity and jobs? Yes I do. Do you seriously support the sale of mines, arms and chemicals to a dictator for use on innocent women and children or is this another one of your "aha, I wasn't being serious" posts? Blair, like Prime Ministers before and after him, has promoted the British weapons industry around the world to the very worst leaders. It's a sickening, spineless act of a man without conscience or code.

Captain... Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 The UN is an impotent inadequate bunch of non-decision takers. Britian went in for Britain's govt. reasons. The British army (and the US army ...) are not arms of the U.N.. The UN are inadequate at policing the world, we are amoral for doing it for them. Nobleness of protecting others through killing others is an interesting idea. Do you feel that you or the British govt have enough inclination or intelligence or impartiality to decide who needs protecting from whom? The victors decide which was the side of the just. Yes, lets say someone is trying to kill you because of where you are from, I can stop him, but I can only do that by killing him, and maybe getting hurt in the process. I kill him, you survive, everyone is happy. I think I did the right thing. Now you are bringing intelligence into it, it turns out my intelligence was wrong, and I was given incorrect information and actually that man was going to hug you. Did I do anything wrong? Yes. Was it my fault? No. You can argue that the government is not in a position to decide on where the army should operate, hence waiting for UN approval, and I would say you could be right. But that is not the fault of the soldiers who risk their lives following orders that come from a trusted source. I'm ignoring the rest of your post, because I think your brain melted halfway through, and confused what I had written with the voices in your head telling you to kill everyone. @Moosebreath: Love you too
ADK Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 People seem to think that soldiers are being given orders to shoot civilians. ROE are actually pretty restrictive for troops on the ground. Most civilians die due to misplaced airstrikes/artillery.
MooseBreath Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 Your every post shouts RACIST! I read your posts and wonder how we can be classed as the same species. You seem to have ignored your blatant sexism in your response. I said I thought you were a woman because you write like a woman. How do you know that's sexist and not a compliment? Clue: you don't. You're very dense. I have no more time for you.
Reynard Bleu Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the the UK are only required to obey orders from superior officers if the order is lawful. Your assertion that people join the armed services for financial gain is laughable. They earn no more or less than other young men their age who are gainfully employed in a responsible job. They may earn more than you, but that's no benchmark. With the number of young people available to them today the armed forces can be quite choosy when it comes to selection. Your argument finally blew out with the morons jibe. In the absence of any fact you resort to name calling, well thats about your level, juvinile jokes. The people I have served with in the Army are no different from anyone else in Society, there are good, bad and indifferent in the ranks, just as in any social or work group. The vast majority are decent folk who when asked can switch on and be extremely ruthless, professional soldiers. Apart from war-fighting, I have been a stand in Fireman, worked in disaster relief in earthquake zones, stood ceremonial guard duties, trained soldiers from other countries, searched for missing people, served with a mountian rescue team, learned Spanish and German, worked with the British Antartic Survey, etc.etc. Yeah, we just stood around smoking and playing X-Box waiting for the next firefight. Go and get some facts about Army, Navy and Airforce life before you gob on about it. As for the whether we should have gone in to Iraq, Afghanistan or Libya, well I have seen plenty of good reasons why it was right and I have seen many good reasons it was not. We dragged our heels about over Bosnia and that resulted terrible suffereing and loss of life and Governments were berated for standing by. But politics is no place for a soldier. As a professional Soldier I was glad I had an opportunity to practice my trade in a live environment, its what most soldiers want. The initial rush or buzz of close combat is soon replaced by a more sober feeling. As a husband and a dad and an ordinary bloke, the loss of so much life and so much suffering on both sides leaves me ashamed and sad it ever happened. One thing I will say, The Afghan's don't like us being there, they want us gone, but most I encountered don't want the Taliban back either, they feel doomed.
Guest Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 I'll let it drop there. any further comments could be construed as personal to you Reynard. And I don't know if you're a murdering moron with mental problems or not. You do follow the City so I doubt that you're totally sane.

Zingari Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 Do you seriously support the sale of mines, arms and chemicals to a dictator for use on innocent women and children? What guarantee do you get when you sell arms to any other country ,( dictatorship or democratic ) , that they aren’t used on the innocent ?
Daggers Posted 4 July 2012 Posted 4 July 2012 What guarantee do you get when you sell arms to any other country ,( dictatorship or democratic ) , that they aren’t used on the innocent ? I do not believe we should have an arms industry - but if one exists then, at the very least, the government of the day should prohibit the sale of certain items such as landmines. Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Can't be any other interpretation seeing as that is what he was doing.
