I will be contacting the key police officers involved with match day football next week so don't worry about the club being aware as they will as a consequence of my contacts. I can contact Kev Barclay direct if people want as a courtesy to his position at the club as, like it or not, he would be involved in any decisions regarding safe standing in the future. I know him personally so it would not be a problem.

Not been on here for a.while I've been so busy working away. More of the same next week unfortunately.

I think he does need to be contacted and asked. At worst he'll say no and im positive he can't do anything to try and cancel the event

Stu

I will E-mail him and let him know, I would be surprised I he could come down as he is very busy on match days but I will make the offer. Don't worry about him cancelling it as he's not concerned about anything that goes on outside the ground's perimeter.

And a response from Garnier:

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately I have a prior engagement on 18 August but I have contacted the relevant Government minister with your proposal and will get back to you as soon as I have had a response.

The club HAVE to be involved in this it has to be a collaborative effort from LCFC and the fans... At the end of the day it's them who will be forking out for the change in seating.

It also has to be presented and marketed to them in the correct way something along the lines of 'being a fan concious club that LCFC are imagine what a feather in the cap it would be that LCFC became the first club in the uk that promoted and proved the concept of safe standing and became a beacon for the rest of the football league.

Peterbrough could be used as a example as I believe they have had no serious incidents with there old terraced style stand for a number of years. Also maybe consider contacting someone from Posh policing/stewarding to talk about the benefits 'our style' safe standing would impact them if they could get it introduced.

Finally maybe get in touch with the German club that already has Safe Standing and get a quote from them on how this has improved matchday experiances for the fans. In my honest opinion I think this will come down to the commercials ie cost of ripping out the old and fitting the new but if you can convince them to replace a small amount as a trial it would be a start.

It's a great effort already guys but without the clubs involvement its just another group of fans lobbying for something that's only going to cost them cash.

Regards, Ash

Ash I whole heartedly agree with you however an event to show the fans interest is surely the first step along the way to convincing those at the club who can make it happen. Good publicity is needed to ensure the owners are aware. Your point about the business side of it is correct, the prestige of being the first in the country does raise the eyebrows of businessmen. Nearly did it a year or two ago with the first ever written agreement between a club and a fans group, it was signed and ready to be published but unforeseen events meant it didn't happen and that was signed and supported by the man seen as the most obstructive at the club.

1964 - absolutely mate I'm all for the fans involvement piece I just honestly feel the earlier you get the club engaged with this piece the more they will feel part of something.

Imagine a rep from LCFC turning up and seeing hundreds if not thousands of City faithful all wanting the same thing not to mention the local dignatories (mayor, Stringy etc). Make them part of it from the start and it becomes a collaboration rather than a proposition.

All you can do is ask and hope for a response even if you invite them and hey don't show.

Dear Stuart,

Thank you for your e-mail. I do have a couple of things in my diary on the 18th August so I will see what I can do. I have seen the safe standing used in Germany and there do not seem to be any issues. I will be happy to write to the Minister or ask a Parliamentary question on this issue if you wish. Could you confirm your address if you wish me to do this.

Kind Regards,

Andrew Bridgen

Its not MPs minds we have to change IMO. Its the FA. They thrive on these sanitised family football atmospheres and seem to think that introducing standing would mean taking steps back with their aim.

But the government advise the PL and FL that for a stadium to get a license it must be all seated.

Posted

Correct it's MP's who would change the law so if the statute allowed it the FA would be powerless against any club introducing safe standing.

That aside, the more organisations withing football (especially those as big as the FA) who can be got on side to lobby politicians, the greater chance it has of being passed into law. All relevant parties need to be convinced IMO, not just any single entity such as the club or the police.
