Just got a reply from Stringer:

Hi there Tom,

Thanks for taking the time to e-mail me.

I appreciate you thinking about Alan and I with this issue in mind. I’m sure you’ll be aware of how delicate I have to be with siding on these particular issues, the BBC don’t look favourably on you when weighing into political issues within Sport, especially when it’s such a sensitive issue. I’ll speak to the boss and let you know.

If you could let me know the timings etc because contrary to popular belief, Alan and I don’t just turn up at 2:55 and crack on, my day starts at 12:30 at the ground to set the kit up etc.

Keep me up to date though.

Kind regards,

Ian

Fair enough. Though surely, like twitter, its his own view and doesnt reflect the BBCs. Send him a link to their website, safestandingroadshow.co.UK

Let him know that we're also trying to get the mayor down, as well as other MPs and police.

We are hoping to aim for an early start 11am, though the first hour may become solely a time for MPs, the mayor etc to view away from the fans. Without wanting to isolate the fanss, it may encourage them to come down knowing they won't be faced with fans bothering them,

Presumably he wouldnt be able to publicise it over the radio, but hopefully he'd retweet a few of my tweets

So would you want him to come down at 11 or a bit later? We could make a 11-12 session as kind of an 'invite only' (I know the pub's still going to be open to the public at that time..) so the more influential people can talk easily with the roadshow staff without having to fight through crowds of people?

That was my idea though you cant stop people coming to the pub as you say. Times will be confirmed a week Thursday. I know its shorter notice but itS all I can do as their assistant manager wasnt prepares to make any arrangements without his boss there

There's nothing to stop the BBC/Merc reporting that such an event is taking place or what happens on the day, they don't have to support it to report on it.

Praying this will happen, its the only thing that will get me to get another season ticket.

Is this comment based on wanting to stand or the theory that standing would be cheaper *because the latter isn't always the case"

I should be able to make this.

Just a thought though. Where do think the best place in the ground would be for this.I mean, L1 stands anyway.

I reckon sk1/2 would be best and i may just settle the age old kop arguement.

Just sent this to Ian:

Morning Ian.

I've been talking to Stu from foxestalk, he has told me nothing will be set in stone untill the 26th, as the manager of the Counting House is away and the assistant manager doesn't want to make any arrangements is his absence.

Regarding the isue you raised about taking sides, surely reporting on a story would not imply that you are taking sides either way? I don't think we want you to become a crusader for our cause, we just need people such as yourself who can spread the word more easily and help the public make their own, informed choice.

Assuming the event does go ahead the plan is to have the press, local MPs and the police coming in to take a look from 11.00 This way you can speak to the representatives easily without fighting through crowds of fans.

Thanks again, Tom.

Maybe someone else could email him too? To make it clear its not just me who wants him there......

I'll be sure to head by with the old man if he doesn't frantically scramble for a parking space at 2:45pm as usual.

His knees barely work any more, yet he'd be over the king power moon if he could stand at matches.

Having worked on sport at Radio Leicester in the past, I doubt his shift will start in time to do interviews at 11am in the morning on match days - would more likely be the person doing the morning sports bulletin, but that is more difficult if the news person is also doing sport, as they would do hourly bulletins

Be better to get a news reporter over to do it for the Monday breakfast show IMO. Far more exposure and the story isn't really sport-related (i.e. it's an off-the-pitch matter).

I doubt very much they'd have any power whatsoever to cancel the event with it not being on their land.

It might be an idea to invite someone from the club, but I'd be surprised if anyone connected with matchday H&S turned up to be honest.

Think theres a clue in his username.

Is anyone from the club being invited to this, or do we not trust them to not try and spoil or cancel the event?

How can they cancel it?

Every effort must be made to contact the club IMO. They will try to weasel out of acknowledging the roadshow's existence, and certain people at the club will willfully contradict themselves when it comes to their own policy on standing. However, if this is ever going to get off the ground they need to be persistently pressured into making their position public as to whether they support this venture or not.

I will be contacting the key police officers involved with match day football next week so don't worry about the club being aware as they will as a consequence of my contacts. I can contact Kev Barclay direct if people want as a courtesy to his position at the club as, like it or not, he would be involved in any decisions regarding safe standing in the future. I know him personally so it would not be a problem.

The guy needs to be bombarded so he can't bury his head in the sand. He needs to make his position clear, and he needs to make a logical argument as to why he comes to whatever conclusions he comes to.
