Leicester_Numan Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 If you are on certain benefits such as JSA or Housing benefit you can get a new desktop computer for 99 quid or a laptop for 149. If you take the Talk Talk phone and broadband deal there is a further 50 quid deduction. So a new desktop for 49 quid. Check out this website for all the details. Sorry, can't link it on my crappy phone, can someone else post the link please. www.getonlineathome.org

Leicester_Numan Posted 17 July 2012 Author Posted 17 July 2012 This got posted on one of the money saving sites and apparently the specs are shit.. Cheaper to source your own Don't know how long ago that was because I didn't see it. This goes along with the new Talk Talk deal which gives you 50 quid welcome credit as well so basically, a free desktop

Leicester_Numan Posted 17 July 2012 Author Posted 17 July 2012 And strapping the unemployed to a Talk Talk contract they can't get out of for twelve months. It's not exactly a bad 12 month contract though is it? Blimey, you try and help people out and give them info they may not know about and all you get is moaning
danny. Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 More free stuff for people who don't work, yay! *runs away before I get flamed*
ADK Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 More free stuff for people who don't work, yay! *runs away before I get flamed* Yeah just pay £100 and you get a free computer.
danny. Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 Yeah just pay £100 and you get a free computer. If it's subsidised, a % of the cost is 'free' to the buyer. £99 (or £49 on the BB deal) sounds pretty cheap for a computer?!
Leicester_Numan Posted 17 July 2012 Author Posted 17 July 2012 Probably cost less than 49 quid to make it but I would assume it is part subsided by the government but it is open to anyone not just the unemployed but it just costs a bit more. In that case, Moonie would be correct and it might be cheaper to source your own. But for people who are on benefits and don't have a PC at home, this could be the deal for you
Fox92 Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 I can't find the specs? Taken from the website: Your computer will be similar to the one shown in the photograph above
danny. Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 I'm a mac user, so probably out of touch with pricing, but surely you can't buy/make a PC for anything close to £49!?
Fox92 Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 I'm a mac user, so probably out of touch with pricing, but surely you can't buy/make a PC for anything close to £49!? No, I doubt you can.. You couldn't even make a storage/media system for that.
Rincewind Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 I think the half price deal is open to anyone along with the free instalation. I almost had it. Agreed to it then called Virgin to cancel and they offered me a better deal to stay. Would have cost me more to keep Virgin TV and have Talk Talk broadband and phone and even more when the offer is finished.
yorkie1999 Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 I can't find the specs? Taken from the website: Your computer will be similar to the one shown in the photograph above you can pick these up from most car boot sales for about £110
m00nie Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 Don't know how long ago that was because I didn't see it. This goes along with the new Talk Talk deal which gives you 50 quid welcome credit as well so basically, a free desktop heres when it was on HOTUKDEALS.. works on a rating system there awarding heat when people deem it a good deal.. this one went to MINUS 159 at the time.. You can expect to get: A refurbished computer to designed to do the basics VERY well 15" flat screen monitor Keyboard & mouse CD drive and USB ports P4 2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 40 GB hard drive 30 day warranty, telephone helpline and a useful "Quick Start Guide" booklet can pick these spec up at less than the £99 all day long and even at £49 on ebay without tying into a talk talk contract ( who seem to get slated on most sites for poor reviews) http://www.hotukdeal...eathome-1198885 was posted again and still didnt seem to go down well http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/desktop-computer-99-notebook-199-getonlineathome-1254775
danny. Posted 17 July 2012 Posted 17 July 2012 Including a flat screen and a copy of windows 7 pro? for £49? wow! I sold my copy of windows 7 pro for £90 on ebay, must have really ripped someone off!! Just checked - windows 7 still going for about £80-90 on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.u... 7 professional Have you got a link for the £49 for windows 7 pro, plus the PC and LCD screen?
Leicester_Numan Posted 18 July 2012 Author Posted 18 July 2012 heres when it was on HOTUKDEALS.. works on a rating system there awarding heat when people deem it a good deal.. this one went to MINUS 159 at the time.. can pick these spec up at less than the £99 all day long and even at £49 on ebay without tying into a talk talk contract ( who seem to get slated on most sites for poor reviews) http://www.hotukdeal...eathome-1198885 was posted again and still didnt seem to go down well http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/desktop-computer-99-notebook-199-getonlineathome-1254775 For people who are working or are already online, it's not a deal that makes sense. For people on benefits who don't have a PC, it's not a bad deal, it's only a 12 month contract (which seems to go by in about 5 minutes nowadays) and it is an improved Talk Talk contract with 50 quid credit rather than the standard 30. It's a senseless deal for some but a good starting point for others
Rincewind Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 It may be beneficial to the govt if those using the PC's use them for job searches. Although there are many places like libraries with free access to omputers. Using one in the library last night. They are very slow. They have IE as a browser. But If you are used to a faster speed i supposed it would appear slow. The deals not bad and when I called up to change my mind they offered a reduction. So they could go lower in the price. Ehe one shown is a starting point. So all you have to say I have other deals to check out and if yours is the best I'll take yours. Then call the others up and say he same thing.
