BigAL88 Posted 9 September 2012 Author Posted 9 September 2012 ended up going for the day this morning . all round top day, as people have said anymore than a day trip would be to much and leave you very much out of pocket. the wash monster was ok the sea life center was very good and lots to so cant fault it really (bar from the 2 pounds per person per ride) but the kids love it so cantcomplain to much i spose. id give it a 8/10 good day trip. the major down side is the traffic, completely unbelievable left at 8 am (route planner said 2 hours) and got there at 11 30 and left at 4:45 and got back 5 mins ago shame really coz things like that make you think can i be bothered to shit in that traffic again apart from the traffic i recommend it, much better than skagvegas imo...

cambridgefox Posted 9 September 2012 Posted 9 September 2012 I've been camping in Stiffkey this weekend and went into wells ,which is ok.Hunstanton is not my thing but not saying its a bad place. Had a great meal at the red lion in Stiffkey last night, top notch but dented my pocket for £90 2 adults 2kids.Apart from Hunstanton I think the North Norfolk coast has become snobbish and you are now paying over he odds for food, parking and accomodation for the name of North Norfolk, don't get me wrong it's a beautiful place but it knows it.

I was just about to say (when I'd only just started reading your post) that the Red Lion in Stiffkey is a nice pub. If you thought that was pricey just be grateful you didn't choose the Hoste Arms in Burnham! My absolute favourite foodie pub in North Norfolk at the moment is the Orange Tree in Thornham... lovely and well worth paying that little bit more for.

I've been slating the Prices yet my parents had a second home in Burnham opposite the Hoste Arms the street behind (Rogers row.)Think we are going in December and yes it's expensive. Thanks for the tip,I like the pub in Salthouse but I have forgotten the name!Just remembered The Dun Cow!
Reynard Bleu Posted 10 September 2012 Posted 10 September 2012 Mi mum used to live on the North Norfolk coast. One of the nicest parts of England IMO. Hunstanton is your typical Victorian seaside town... smashing in the summer, dead in the winter. Closest seaside place to Leicester (in terms of miles) I believe and great for a motorbike blast. Get there, bag of chips, ride home... Agreed, the whole North Norfolk coast is great, especially for families. We go to Brancaster every New Years day with the dogs and spend a few hours on a the deserted beach with a flask and picnic.

I used to read in the Eastern Daily Press that some of those beaches further up the coast can be pretty dangerous though if you don't take care. Particularly at Brancaster apparently. Some have lost their lives becoming stranded in the tides that sweep in so quickly.
Guest Posted 10 September 2012 Posted 10 September 2012 When I was in Leicester last June one thing that really impressed me was the price of meals. Had a couple of really great pub meals at a fiver a head - or less. Same thing over here (well they can't do the same thing, but an equivalant meal) would be at least £25 a head and most likely much more.

We rented one of the wooden houses earlier in the year that you have to drive through the camp site to get to. Good beer at the Red Lion.

We do check the tide tables and the dogs only paddle. We went back in July on a really hot Wednesday, just got up at 6 and thought it would be a treat. Took a disposable BBQ, some sausages and some rolls and had a glorious day. Much of North Norfolk is now the place of choice for holiday homes for the well off in the home counties. Lots of Range Rovers and the like. I Love Cromer crab.

A lot of Londoners are selling their ridiculously priced properties and moving to the area. Mundesley, for instance, is full of Londoners!
Ilkeston_Fox Posted 10 September 2012 Posted 10 September 2012 Been there many a time - absolute stunning place!
