Babylon Posted 17 September 2012 Posted 17 September 2012 Oh stop bleating.. Least I'm trying to come up with some sort of answer right or wrong. You ain't. Probably because I don't presume I know the answers. Sometimes there is no obvious answer, in this case I don't believe a DM is going to cut out all of these errors people are making. Will it help, I'm sure it will a bit, but I think there is more to it than that as many of the goals a dm would not have stopped. Attack wise the problem seemed obvious yesterday, our attacking players were miles apart until knockaert came on and drifted central to link up play. The only time this season we looked like scoring through the middle. That just looked glaringly obvious. Perhaps the defence are too deep as Thrac suggested, perhaps the midfield flood forward too much, perhaps it's a bit of both along with poor decision making at crucial times.
marbelladave Posted 17 September 2012 Posted 17 September 2012 You have no idea how much I hate agreeing with Col City but ...... The defensive midfielder would mean that less balls get through to the centre halves, so they have less opportunities to spoon the ball to the forward, they'd also have an additional body nearby to help out when they do. I'm just astonished that Drinkwater doesn't come deeper and help more in defence, against us he ran the show in a real box to box role, breaking down our attacks and emerging with the ball to lay off a simple pass .... Instructions from the manager...... Pearson wants the team to defend from the front but has no idea how it should be done. Our strikers try and press the back 4 but are comfortably outnumbered and quickly bypassed. Our defence still sits deep but our central mids come forward and try and press in midfield, once they are bypassed our back 4 is wide open and devoid of any cover, one on ones all over the place.....

It's this 2 men wide and 2 men up nonsense that is causing the big problems. No one supporting the strikers, wingers wide and isolated, midfield drawn forward to fill the space leaving the defence hopelessly exposed so that, under pressure they make mistakes. We are setting up like this...... Keeper Right Back---Centre Back---Centre Back---Left Back Centre Mid--Centre Mid Right Wing----------------------------------------------------Left Wing Striker-Striker Acres of space in forward areas, isolated players and a duplication of effort up top...... We are far too spread out to support each other effectively, the man on the ball has no support, no options so it is hardly surprising that he tries to force a pass or just hits it long. This has been pretty much the case all season.

Yep, the game seemed very stretched yesterday..
marbelladave Posted 17 September 2012 Posted 17 September 2012 Yep, the game seemed very stretched yesterday.. Third away game of the season, first two we play an open attacking style and both times give away 2 goals in the first half...... In the third we really need a result so we tighten up and look to be a bit more difficult to beat........
flowwolf Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 8 or 9 out of the wolves 1st eleven would fit in ours, wolves were the favourites, and won. Our fans 'expecting' to win at molineux would be like spurs fans demanding a win at old trafford. lets all behave. Wolves were absolute dross and you could clearly see why they got relegated and why they won't get promoted. But they still beat us. If we can't beat teams like them there is no hope it's as simple as that.

flowwolf Posted 19 September 2012 Posted 19 September 2012 I've just fetched my Joy Division Cds and asked Mrs M to lock up anything sharp......... :D :D :D Yes but apart from that I saw a little glimmer of hope ( it was Harry Redknapp in the stands sitting next to Top ) :D
marbelladave Posted 19 September 2012 Posted 19 September 2012 Seriously, if we get Redknapp in I will not need anything sharp, I'll just beat myself over the head with the frying pan...... Simply can not stand the man......
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 19 September 2012 Posted 19 September 2012 We need two good results NOW, or Pearson could well be packing his suitcase. I am certainly no fan of his, but the club is bigger, and so I truly hope we can win them.
indierich06 Posted 19 September 2012 Posted 19 September 2012 Seriously, if we get Redknapp in I will not need anything sharp, I'll just beat myself over the head with the frying pan...... Simply can not stand the man...... Agreed (for the second time today!) - not only is he a crook, he's actually a very, very overrated manager who has won very little.
MGLCFC Posted 19 September 2012 Posted 19 September 2012 The FA cup with Portsmouth - something we've never achieved in our history. Tottenham's place in the Champions League, something they never achieved before. Not sure it's about winning domestic trophies these days, other than the Premiership, but financial success. I'm not advocating that Pearson should be sacked and Harry in - but I do think he is a decent manager, if he's allowed to spend to build a squad.
indierich06 Posted 19 September 2012 Posted 19 September 2012 The FA cup with Portsmouth At what cost? If we have to suffer like Portsmouth have, just to win the FA Cup, I'll pass thanks. Tottenham's place in the Champions League, something they never achieved before. With the amount of money spent and the quality of the squad, top four should have always been the aim for Spurs. I don't think it's any coincidence that Spurs' top four finish conincided with catastrophic seasons for Chelsea and Liverpool. I'm not saying he's a bad manager, I'm just saying he's extremely overrated by a lot of people.
