cambridgefox Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Where do we go from here? Its down to the lake i fear... Beat me to itI ya ya ya ya ya..
flowwolf Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Blunt up front dull in midfield naive at the back. This team is going nowhere except mid table. We are not just a mile away from any promotion prospect but a flight to Australia from being able to hold our own in the Prem. It's not as if we have any hope is it Deep down we all know we are not moving forward and much as I dislike a manager merry go round Pearson and his Man united rejects have to go and it has to be now if we have any chance of catching up.
AyewJoking Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 where do we go from here? Try and win the next two games. Restore some belief. Its a poor start but no need to panic. I havent seen any games but from what I can tell from here is that we arent completely useless.

sphericalfox Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 I went on Youtube to find the intro to the long forgotten comedy called Soap which I thought would be appropriate for this thread but found this instead Brazilian soap soccer. That ref must be blind, there's no other explanation to why he isn't unable to walk!
Happy Fox Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 If I knew the answer to the question I'd have more influence than I do now. It's difficult. My preference would for us to stick with a manager for a good two or three seasons, allowing him the time to build a squad capable of winning promotion. But within that period there would have to be clear signs of improvement on the pitch; otherwise we'd be sticking with a bloke for the sake of it. Given that, the question to ask is whether or not we have the right manager for the job. Is Nigel Pearson capable of winning promotion with us. He has no track record of promotion from this division, so based on his history the answer to that question has to be no. Do I feel, honestly, that if given two more years from now Pearson would have us promoted? I really don't think so. I don't see us being anything other than a side floating around the top ten with him in charge. It's a shame, really, because I like the bloke. But I don't want to support a club which accepts mediocrity. We're never going to be Manchester United, but we certainly shouldn't be putting up with being a middling second tier side. This is what we need after going down different routes of management Sven (high profile), appointing a manager for a second time which very rarely works We need to appoint a manager with a track record of promotion from this division it has got work for us surely? Logic would say the experience of doing something more than once can work dividends but knowing our luck probably not. Mick McCarthy or Neil Warnock (people despise Colin willy puller but they cannot deny he is a good manager) would do a job imo Harry Redknapp would be a tempting proposition but I would be wary of the fact he hasn't managed in this division for a long time but good managers should be able to adapt so it could work.
SMX11 Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 We have had a difficult start in terms of fixtures especially the away games, the only real banker has been Peterborough. We have looked handy in most of the games for large periods but the defensive performances away from home have resulted in defeats. I haven’t been many games so far but from what i saw today at the match Liam Moore perhaps needs to be put back at right back where the pressure isn't on him as much and get Whitbread or SSL. Moore performed reasonably overall but looked a bit of a weak link against what has to be said very good strikers for this level. Strikers wise, Nugent needs to be dropped as he has shown very little to deserve himself a place. He should give way to Beckford or Waggy (who played pretty well coming off the bench today). Wolves didn't really need to do much today and I thought they looked pretty cumbersome on the ball and there for the taking, unfortunately we need to be far more resolute if we want to pick up regular points away from home.

Harry Redknapp wouldn't touch us with a barge pole and I wouldn't want him here anyway. We had a chance to appoint Warnock some years back but the fans kicked off and Mandaric decided he couldn't be doing with the hassle. McCarthy would be a good choice - he has won the league with Wolves and Sunderland and finished 3rd with Millwall. I'd be inclined to have a crack at Holloway (who I didn't want sacked at the time) but the idea wouldn't fly either with our fans or with him. For now we have who we have. Win the next two games (I think we will) and everything looks a lot more positive. But I have no doubt that the owners will be thinking about this already.
Fox1norfolk Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 The basic problem after watching todays game is that we have a squad of fairly competent footballers, most bought in by an very average manager. What is lacking is an above average footballer, one who can control and turn a game, on the lines of a 'modric', but in the transfer window NP just brought in more of the same. Until we can find find a 'championship Modric' we will never be better than mid table, promotion just isn't an option.

I feel pretty fooked off myself that we have not signed some of the players who I felt strongly could have improved the quality of this squad immensely. Spearing has gone to Bolton, Koren remains at Hull, we have signed what appear to be some very average players. DeLaet, James, Futacs... May well be players of the future but are that good enough now? I don't know 'where we go from here'... Because I don't think we have good enough players. And Pearson's flat 4-4-2 IS too predictable. Does he not know any other way to play football? One of his best signings, in Vardy, is being made to look hopeless because we are not using his strengths. We look very very average at present I'm afraid.
shade Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 some of you are having a larrrf! we've played well the majority of this season. individual errors and bad luck aside, there's certainly nothing to be majorly concerned about. five games of a season is irrelevant, even a whole season is nothing in the grand scheme of things. managers should be given two full seasons minimum really to create a team. short termism is the bane of modern society.
ashfosse Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 I went on Youtube to find the intro to the long forgotten comedy called Soap which I thought would be appropriate for this thread but found this instead Brazilian soap soccer. bit like watching us today on grass..

After today I am hoping Knockaert can be the one to make things happen, he is loaded with creative flair. We won't be able to buy better than him Where do we go from here? Persist with the system, so the players get more adept at it. Give the same team a run together regardless of results. I think NP is doing the right thing. Playing attacking football guarantees goals. It also takes away the focus on defence, breaks down your teams shape, and guarantees your defence will be more exposed. Some fans expect us to play a high-tempo passing game with fullbacks getting forward and yet keep clean sheets every game. You choose one or the other, id rather watch this than safety-first percentage football
Fox1norfolk Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Its great to play well, it sometimes looks very pretty, nice passing, but the idea is to win games by scoring goals, the record todate five games only 6 goalsn simply not good enough
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Its not a case of choosing ugly winning football, or less effective passing football - you get the formula right and you are laughing (like Southampton or Blackpool have done - 2 teams where they are worth more than the sum of their parts). Sure its a harder system to play but once you have perfected it, it reaps the benefits and brings the crowds in. And we have the personnel to do so
He's not bald Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Well Downton Abbey was better than what I saw at Molineux this afternoon and it costs a whole lot less!
Grewks Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Well Downton Abbey was better than what I saw at Molineux this afternoon and it costs a whole lot less! 8 or 9 out of the wolves 1st eleven would fit in ours, wolves were the favourites, and won. Our fans 'expecting' to win at molineux would be like spurs fans demanding a win at old trafford. lets all behave.
Captain... Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 From here we go to Wednesday where we play a home game against Burnley, we will turn them over, and be in a better position than at this point last year. Season's are not defined by narrowly losing at the home of the teams that last season were in the premiership, and had been for a while.

Sure its a harder system to play but once you have perfected it, it reaps the benefits and brings the crowds in. And we have the personnel to do so Sort of...... We are hugely under performing as a team, lots of effort but little structure, discipline or proper support play. Our front 6 are so far apart it is virtually impossible for them to support each other, everyone seems to be playing on their own apart from Nugent and Vardy who seem to want to play the same role. The only time we looked like a team was when we attacked down the right in the 2nd half, Knockeart cutting inside and De Laet overlapping was the only example of 2 or more of our players combining to produce something worthwhile. Otherwise we were simply individuals, largely without purpose, being picked off and bypassed by the team play of an otherwise modest Wolves side. Worst performance of the season, by a long way.......
paulsherwood1 Posted 17 September 2012 Posted 17 September 2012 8 or 9 out of the wolves 1st eleven would fit in ours, wolves were the favourites, and won. Our fans 'expecting' to win at molineux would be like spurs fans demanding a win at old trafford. lets all behave. Seriously? 8 or 9!!! No way. Most of the wolves team are unknown! I think only berra would get in our side. Doyle is off form, ebanks is old news and only scores against shabby defences. This is a team that has won 2 from 18 league games ( wolves ). Of course we can expect to win there. What are your expectations? Mid table mediocrity with our mediocre manager? It's not good enough. Three out of three defeats on the road, it's not anywhere near good enough. I can't see how the bookies pre season promotion favourites expecting a win at wolves is anything like spurs fans expecting a win at old Trafford!
indierich06 Posted 17 September 2012 Posted 17 September 2012 Why cannot we sack NP?, of course their are no guarantees the new man in charge can get this team producing the goods, but I would hazard a guess that a half decent manager could get the best out of these players or albeit play the best team we have imo, but I have seen enough from NP to warrant the fact that we won't get promotion with him in charge from this division but that is my opinion. If we change manager now, we won't get promoted. We've done it time and time again and it never works. I'd rather keep Pearson rather than make another change and start the cycle again. Just as I would rather we kept Sven, just as I would rather we kept Pearson the first time. Losing a few games doesn't bother me when I can see the fundamentals are there. If I thought we had a hopeless side, then I'd start worrying. The ingredients are there, they'll come good before long. I just don't see the point in panicking and sacking people after 5 tough games.

It is our away form that is costing us, it did last season as well when NP returned (16 points from a possible 45) I still maintain that we should of made the playoffs with that squad of players. You can try and gloss over our deficiencies as much as you want too I do agree with the consensus we are playing better on the eye the football, and at home that has yielded 100% win record so far which is commendable what I am not pleased about is our away form and I feel this is going to cost us big time, and NP's future.

Don't get me wrong, I'm never happy to see us lose and I'm not stupid enough to think we don't have to sort things out in our away take if we're going to get anywhere near promotion this season - I just don't think changing manager is going to stop individual players making mistakes. For me, things will improve when Whitbread comes into the side. Moore has been great but we're lacking that experience in defence alongside Morgan - we need someone who can read the game and is a very good technical defender alongside a physical stopper like Morgan. The manner of our defeats has annoyed me because I can see that these teams were there for the taking and if we hadn't shipped silly goals, we'd probably be sitting here talking about our great away form. Having said that, I can see that the ingredients are there and I'm convinced we will improve away from home because from what I've seen so far, I'm encouraged. We need to cut out the sloppy play and defending ASAP, then we'll improve.
Mark_w Posted 17 September 2012 Posted 17 September 2012 I still maintain that we should of made the playoffs with that squad of players. *sigh*
