Probably not. He's not a big enough name for the papers to get excited about.

Do find it funny that the BBC are reporting it as an unnamed player, but the the incident is plastered all over the highlights on the FLS, mentioning Lee Croft's name numerous times.

Anyway, I've seen the incident, and Croft was right to lay into the ball boy. It was late on and he was keeping the ball rather than giving it to someone to take the throw in, when Croft went to retrieve it from the ball boy's feet he kicked it away, but obviously if he's brought race into it he's wrong.

It has got me thinking though, the recent Suarez and Terry cases may encourage people to come forward more when they are subjected to racial abuse which is a great thing. But also especially in the Terry case, where the victim didn't even hear the words uttered was able to get a man charged with an offence he wasn't aware of even happening, shows how easy it can be to to shout racism. So it's a two sided coin, one side it helps genuine victims have courage to come forward, but it could also encourage people to think it's ok to use the race card just because someone with different colour skin got a bit angry with them. My sister is a teacher, and from her experience I know this happens a lot in her school. She's told black kids off, and gets back "You're only telling me off because I'm black" . It really pisses her off and she lays into them telling them it's disrespectful to the real victims of racial abuse. I'm all for kicking racism out of not just football but life, it's disgusting, but I also don't want to see claims of racism used as a tool to get people punished just because a person of one colour get's a little pissed off with a person of another colour.

I'm not say that's what's happened here, I'm just ranting. If Croft did racial abuse the lad, he deserves a long ban, if he didn't and it's a false claim the ball boy needs to lose his job. Either way the ball boy needs a stern talking to about his role, it's not for him to decide who to give the ball back to, he's there to collect and return the ball to both teams.

Absolute top post this.

He blatantly said something race-related else I doubt he would have been so keen to shake the kid's hand afterwards. The kid acted like a twat so if that's all Croft said to him (or something similar) I doubt he would have even felt the need to apologise. I wouldn't have. Seems like he shit himself a bit though so suggests he said something he shouldn't have.

I remember when this guy played for Derby and soccer am had a section on him which was painfully unfunny. Annoying cocky northerner. And he's shit at football.

Agreed with everything here.

The ballboy has the right not to be abused so this should be looked into. However, he most certainly doesn't have the right to attempt to timewaste with a view to possibly altering the outcome of the game - which as the clip shows he is definitely guilty of

So as it stands on the evidence we currently have, the player is innocent, and the ballboy is guilty.

But naturally - as racism is such a massive taboo and as a large percentage of this country are idiots who will jump to their own conclusions when allegations of this type surface: Lee Croft will probably get death threats and fines and match bans, and the ballboy will be seen as a victim and will probably make thousands from selling his "story"

Also, part of me thinks that the ballboy is fully aware of how much of a scandal he could have caused from an incident such as this, so might have just been trying to provoke the player just to get a reaction of any kind. As it's difficult to prove (and disprove) if Lee Croft actually said anything racial, the ballboy will probably get sympathy either way. I'm also certain that Lee Croft is aware of what is at stake if it was proved he had said anything racially-related, and as such would almost certainly not have said anything of a racial nature. Purely guesswork, but with Suarez and Terry's recent cases, my guess is that lip-biting is practiced more than penalty-kicks these days...
