Complacency

The players and 9 out of 10 fans turned up today thinking a win was guaranteed against a lowly Barnsley side.

After we went 1-0 up, we took our foot off the gas and got punished. It took us till 75 minutes to realise that we weren't actually going to walk it, and that we'd have to actually try.

We shouldn't have so little respect for struggling teams. No game in this league is easy.

I hope that in our next home 'banker', we remember that we need to perform and not just expect to stroll to victory. We need to stay grounded otherwise we'll get punished again.

While I didn't expect us to walk it today I did expect us to win the game and clearly so did most people. I think it's totally justified to be disappointed with a draw today because, simply put, we're a better team than Barnsley. Of course we shouldn't assume any game will be a stroll but it is acceptable in some games to say "anything other than a win is a failure" - for me, that was the case today.

While there are very few easy games in this league there are definitely teams who are weaker than others, when we play those teams we should win in most cases. I don't mind the occasional off-result but I don't want it to continue like it did last season, we won't get promoted if it does.

That's the point mate.

If we'd have turned up and played close to the level we have done multiple times this season, we'd have won comfortably.

But the players never gave it 100% today and definitely underestimated Barnsley.

I don't think it was complacency as such, I think it was that, having taken the lead, we felt we could control the game and step it up when we needed to with the cushion of a lead.

Complacency wasn't the reason for the first Barnsley goal, that was poor decision-making.

We needed to add a second goal early, like the Derby game, didn't and then seemed to panic.

Poor decision making is completely right.

It was present today all over the pitch. Knocky maybe being the biggest culprit. He was trying to beat everybody when the ball should have been laid off. Time after time we simply gave the ball away when we really should have just kept it for longer.

Our general decision making today was surprisingly bad for some reason.

Poor decision making is often the result of a lack of concentration and that can come from complacency. We stopped playing, stopped closing them down, joined them in a game of head tennis which they where better at and completely forgot that our best chance of controlling a game is to get the ball down and pass it.

Indeed, and of course we should blame the team (although not too heavily I might add) when we don't perform well enough to beat Barnsley.

I always thought it was going to be tough. There isn't a single easy team in the league this year and Barnsley were massively due a win.

Ipswich maybe?

Whatever happened to one of the refs after the goal completely flattened the tempo after the goal. So incompetent !!

You mean Ipswich 3-0 winners over Millwall who were in the play-off zone earlier today.

There truly are no easy games in this league, and the fact that we have generally been beating the Bristols, Derbys and Ipswichs of the league is why we are where we are, today was disappointing but it is not going to be the last time this season we throw points away, and the same goes for Palace and Cardiff.

I was never complacent, but for the first time in a while, I had confidence that Leicester could win without fuss for a change. This season the team has seemed to be able to deal with teams lower than us, so I thought the team would keep their heads and do their job. Obviously that wasn't the case and we very nearly got nothing from it. Though I can't help but think that the Leicester side last year would've not got the point back, so I guess that's at least one positive.

You can be sure that Pearson was not complacent.

I actually think what happened was we met a team who got compact deep and tight in he centre of midfield, doubled up on the wings and made it like hell to get through.

Granted this was on the back of making two stupid mistakes for their goals but I dont put that down to complacency, it was just a bad performance.

That about sums it up and trying to play in our own half

Right, hang on a second, are you telling me that we struggled to overcome Ipswich when we played them? Really? Don't give me all this rubbish about every game being difficult, when we played Ipswich they were awful by Championship standards and you must have realised that.

Now I'm not saying they've been like that all season because as you say they have had good results but on the day against us they were. As such, we didn't have a difficult time actually winning the game let alone bagging six against them. Barnsley didn't actually play well although they were better than Ipswich, that game would've been a relatively simple one if we played as we did against Derby.

Slowing to a canter after going 1-0 up and then casually passing the ball around at the back (which gave Barnsley their first goal) - I see that as complacent.
