dmayne7 Posted 13 January 2013 Posted 13 January 2013 Logan Taft Wellens Hooper We've signed Gary Hooper?! Great player
dmayne7 Posted 13 January 2013 Posted 13 January 2013 Not on current form. I think kingy was the reason we had a lot of inconsistency at times. We all know his nickname (the invisible man) and at times the midfield struggles when he plays. But James gets much more involved, and has a better passing range and can read the game better than king, at this moment in time. James deserves his place in the team but I have to disagree with this. There is no better player in our team at reading the game than King.
marbelladave Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 This thread is deluded, I am being really polite here....... Four wins against largely rubbish opposition and we get this shit. Where was our 'spine' when we were getting stuffed by Cardiff, Millwall, Leeds, Palace and the rest? Distinctly missing as we cowered in our own half and let those teams walk all over us....... Now a strong, aggressive performance against 'Boro and I might start to think that we have turned a corner.......

Well three of those listed as being part of the spine of the team, on the first page, did not start any of the games you've mentioned. Maybe read the point that is being made before jumping on anything vaguely positive.

It's amazing how 3 good games for James seems to mean he's an automatic pick for most people. James' emergence is excellent for competition, but lets not forget that King has been performing to a high standard for this club for 5 years and was instrumental in is being in the top 5 at the half-way point in the season. He'll be back in the team soon enough.

I hate the fact that if we lose a couple of games suddenly all our players are gash and the manager's a clueless twat, but I also hate the fact that once we win a few games on the spin, the manager's a god, the first team are the best players in the league and anyone outside of that is shit and we're blatantly going to get auto promotion. Can we please just have a bit of perspective in all circumstances?! Yes, we're doing well now - but let's not overreact. I've heard people discussing pitch invasions for when we're promoted and whether Chris Wood will be available for all of our games in the Prem next season. Chill out. We're not there yet, we're not even close. This is just as bad as suggesting we sack the manager for losing a couple of games and that all of our players are shit because we're not winning every game 5-0.
marbelladave Posted 14 January 2013 Posted 14 January 2013 I don't recall us being "stuffed" this season, and Cardiff is an awful example to use Actually Cardiff is a good example, after the break we were a goal down and needed to get after them and play with aggression and real intent, never happened....... At no point were our full backs released to get forward and our midfield lacked the wit to open up Cardiff, to cap it all off our only real threat was subbed off with 15 minutes to go. Our play looked to be more damage limitation than a genuine attempt to gain a point or three. Well three of those listed as being part of the spine of the team, on the first page, did not start any of the games you've mentioned. Maybe read the point that is being made before jumping on anything vaguely positive. That's very much the point, they did not start in any of the tough games..... Four easy wins against rubbish opposition does not cut it, for me at least. Lets see how they do against some decent opposition before we start getting all exited.......

I'll admit we didn't play well, but you can't 'stuff' someone if you win by one or two goals. Its like saying we got thrashed 1-0. Ridiculous.

I say 'stuffed' because in the games I mention we never looked like getting a result (first half against Cardiff excepted). We set up deep, played a cautious game and never took it to the opposition, sure we managed to keep the defeats to modest proportions but we never looked like we would get a point let alone three. We were clearly second best and for a team aspiring to automatic promotion that was pretty poor. FWIW, I think the performances of our 3 'new' players is very encouraging, I'm quite impressed but I am also aware that the opposition has been largely rubbish and they have not yet been properly tested. That might well change on friday night, lets see how they do then......
