Dillonlcfc Posted 23 February 2013 Posted 23 February 2013 On the coach coming back from the game, overall we should have won but parts of our game needs improving. We needed width from marshall and nugent but everytime marshall was in the center! What's going on? Thoughts on this?
Dplcfc Posted 23 February 2013 Posted 23 February 2013 Prob cause Marshall was playin in the middle, with Kane n nuge on the wings, seemed like that to me
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 23 February 2013 Posted 23 February 2013 Didn't really work for width the formation today. Nugent and Kane never threatened there everything went through the middle. Only crosses we put in were from Marshall and his poor set pieces. 4-3-3 never really works for us
lcfcsnow Posted 23 February 2013 Posted 23 February 2013 4-3-3 never really works for us We dont have the personel for it, Pearson is a 4-4-2 man and rarely differs from it so all the players he brings in are for playing that formation. You certainly don't stick 3 center forwards together in a 4-3-3 like we did today it just means two of them are playing different roles to what they're used to, as well as being further from goal. I'd like to see Knockaert as one of the wide forwards in that formation, Wood or Kane as central striker then a pacey left winger/support forward (not Dyer). None of this matters anyway as we haven't got enough variety in central midfield. King/Drinkwater/James/Wellens much of a muchness they all do the same job. Wheres the creativity/spark coming from?

We needed width from marshall and nugent but everytime marshall was in the center! What's going on? Thoughts on this? Citeh fans eh. Almost all games we've played with 2 wingers & had plenty of width in 442 we've had people moaning a midfield duo can be overpowered. Manager changes it to get an extra body in the middle to stop us being overran and we arrest our slide Then we need width again. You can't win with our supporters The width in today's 433 should come from the fullbacks but because Bpool have threatening wide men they had a job to do in not letting us concede All in all - we've got a point & something to build on, if we beat Bburn it will turn out to be an ok point. I'm more pleased NP changed it for today. We can revert to the width in a 442 at home when the midfield duo are less likely to get overran. There is no catch all formation you either have 442 & width but get bullied in the middle if the opposition play 451 or 433...or you play 433 and sacrifice width, you can't have it both ways, especially if your fullbacks are doing a job at the back in an away game
dog_4 Posted 23 February 2013 Posted 23 February 2013 Poor Nigel! Fans moan about 4-4-2, 4-3-3 blar blar blar! This team still needs a couple of years! reducing wage bills and a team full of 20,21,22 year olds. It all needs time. I'm bored of changing managers,I'm bored of players being given 5 mins to turn into the complete player within a year of purchase. Fans need to be patient, a young in experienced side will have ups and downs. Its all part of developing joy and disappointment. I still think we're a year to two years away with this side. With High earners to be shipped out and more talent to come in. Bare with the project people!
Bettsj2 Posted 23 February 2013 Posted 23 February 2013 Is this a joke? Surely this is a joke. You thought Nugent and Marshall were wingers today? Fvcking hell. Shakespeare said before game that we were lining up 4-3-3. How in the blue hell are people confused about the formation?
Johnny Cash Posted 23 February 2013 Posted 23 February 2013 We will find nobody better than Gallagher and Nugent to play out wide. They are the best players in the world afterall

kingfox Posted 23 February 2013 Posted 23 February 2013 It's hard in all fairness, because 4-3-3 hardly works with us. Was worth the gamble though.
hornyhollthefox123 Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 There was nothing wrong with the formation. Nugent and Kane were never going to be playing as proper wingers. The idea was they would be in and around Wood which they were. The full backs would provide the width which they did on several occasions. Ok, the crossing could have been better but jesus the pitch was unplayable. Again just to say.. If we'd have scored that penalty and won people would be praising the formation and Pearson's thinking. Can't win with some people.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 My wife enjoys a bit of width too. She sure does
