Robbie Williams' new swing album Swing Both Ways became the 1000th UK number one album on Sunday. The first number one album was Frank Sinatra in 1956 with Songs for Swingin' Lovers.

I just like circularity of the fact. Swing albums don't get made very often by popular artists these days, so the chances of this occurring was probably quite slim.

I imagine there's a high chance this scenario was manufactured.

Well surely Williams was writing (because there's some original tracks on it) and recording and producing this for a while. The chances of one of the albums that hit number one either staying top for weeks on end, or slipping straight of the top spot would be too high. What if an album has stayed number one for a whole month rather than a week, he can't delay the release of this one by a month or two, he'll have tours and other recording booked in. What if an album had suddenly lost it's number in spot, bringing the 1000th number one back a week, and that could have happened a few times. Add to the fact he released it in the same week Jake Bugg released his new album, there was a huge chance he might get beaten to the number one spot anyway. I've heard it was pretty close between the two. There's too many variables for it to have been planned, and if it was they got lucky. So no I think it's just chance.
