Scow Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 No Dennis Wise on that poll? Oh My! £2 Million for a 34 year old who was on 35k a week, and nearly killed our club.... <_<
davieG Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 Peter Taylor, not sure it's in the spirit of this poll be he is the worst thing that ever happened to LCFC.
BartonFox Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 Ade Akinbiyi and Junior Lewis definately doth financialy and ability wise. No one will ever be able to convince me either of these players are good enough to be considered professionals let alone Premier League. Wise for financial reasons as stated above. All these complaints about Wilcox and Gillespie - you don't remember the late 80's and early 90's???? Michael Trotter Rob Johnson Ricky Hill Ashley Ward Grant Brown Marc North Tony Spearing Brian Carey Colin Gordon Franz Carr Noel Blake Lee Philpott They were utter bollox all much worse than those some of the recent buys.
Mark Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 These signings you've mentioned were all signed in the past 4 years Junior Lewis out of the ones mentioned i suppose, Akinbiyi was better than the other 3.
Scow Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 People tend to forget that Akinbiyi scored 10 goals in his first season, which was a decent return....... Certainly wasn't anywhere near as bad Lewis or Wise....
BartonFox Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 People tend to forget that Akinbiyi scored 10 goals in his first season, which was a decent return.......Certainly wasn't anywhere near as bad Lewis or Wise.... 13587 Usually Scowy you are quite sensible but on this I have to take issue. We spunked 5 million on him (not his fault granted) but for 5 million I'd say 10 goals is terrible. Especially as half of them came off his knee or 'arris. He was woeful, truly inept and from I was told wasn't prepared to put the work in to better himself. David Connolly throughout his career has worked after main training to better himself. Akinbiyi believed he was a star and didn't have to work any harder at his game.

I don't think 10 goals was terrible by any means - You look at some strikers that have been purchased by some Premier league clubs over recent seasons such as Forlan (£6 Million) and Crouch (£ 5 Million) who have done nothing goal wise. I just think people were too harsh on Akinbiyi, although he was generally a shocking player with the ball at his feet. You say most of his goals were as a result of scrambles/knee/arse whatever, a goal is a goal irrespective of how it is scored.
Ricey Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 Akinbiyi for financial reasons but Lee Marshall for pure crapness!
Mark Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 Akinbiyi for financial reasons but Lee Marshall for pure crapness! 13604 No, we got a decent amount back on Akinbiyi. Junior Lewis was given a ridiculous long contract on high wages, so Lewis for pure crapness and financial reasons!
TrickyTrev Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 Akinibiyi played better for us than Wise or Lewis, his woefulness is just highlighted by his ridiculous transfer fee. If we had snapped him up for 500k no one would have moaned about him that much.
TrickyTrev Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 JUnior Lewis for the fact he is the worst professional footballer I have ever seen. The phrase 'I wouldn't haver him in my Sunday league team' sums his ability up perfectly.
Buzzell Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 Wise, Lewis, Marshall, Higgnet, Akinbiyi, Wilcox........The list goes on!!
Guest freund Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 I forgot to add CURTIS .... what a t*sser he scores an own goal ... loses us two points and then buggrs off to pompey to sit on the bench, because they're going to stay up and we're not
Cobbo Posted 20 August 2004 Posted 20 August 2004 I forgot to add CURTIS .... what a t*sserhe scores an own goal ... loses us two points and then buggrs off to pompey to sit on the bench, because they're going to stay up and we're not 13644 erm, we released him actually due to his shitness...

Alexikokopops Posted 21 August 2004 Posted 21 August 2004 All these complaints about Wilcox and Gillespie - you don't remember the late 80's and early 90's????... Lee Philpott They were utter bollox all much worse than those some of the recent buys. 13580 Don't get me started on Lee Philpott. I saw him play for Lincoln a few seasons back, before he was shipped off to Hull, and he was still as poor as ever. Running up the wing, no one around at all, and he just falls over. Why? Because he's poor. Anyway, I'm going for Akinbiyi. Cringeworthy.
Connolly!!! Posted 25 August 2004 Posted 25 August 2004 If this is based on financial reasons, surely Morris has to be the worst signing. This is based on £125k transfer fee, and 7 months wages(so far), without any first team action. If based on football ability, it has to be Lewis, utter shite!!
Ric Flair Posted 25 August 2004 Posted 25 August 2004 Akinbiyi was abysmal, i'm sorry but ten goals or fifty goals he was just disgusting. His attitude along with his footballing talent was out of order, he was in the wrong industry. Lewis was also shocking, but that was again down to Taylor. He's always been crap and would never somehow command a £5 million fee. Akinbiyi all the way, followed by Lewis and Marshall.
