Religion has mostly only been used as the public/official excuse. The second world war was hardly a religious war. It was a greedy and distorted war that was fuelled by the economic depression suffered in Germany. The fact the holocaust took place was because a certain Adolf had this sick and twisted idea of the jews. But it certainly wasn't a religious war...

Our open door policy and the benefits we dish out to all and sundry is appalling. I can't even claim benefits and I have paid into the system yet people who have paid nothing reap the rewards and then bomb our country. That's gratitude for you.

And surely the claim that the war is actually motivated by oil rather than religion is far more believable. Money is, and always will be, the single motivating factor to go to war.
