Bayfox Posted 10 August 2013 Posted 10 August 2013 Mortgages are slightly different because you're expecting/hoping for the asset to appreciate in value thus paying for the interest. Cars will always depreciate rapidly. Plus if you've got a decent deposit your mortgage rate should be relatively low. Some of the car finance rates I've seen have been around 12% - outrageous imo. I can see why people are tempted by the low-sounding monthly repayments, but for me paying thousands upon thousands of pounds over the years just to satisfy number plate envy is bad form, and many will regret it when they find out how poor you're going to be when you retire.granted but you have heard of negative equity?a lot of people like car finance from dealers for gfv. and being able to swap the car after 3 years. not saying its right. but finance currently makes the world go round. my relatives lived in a world of outright buying. but due to greed we live in a world of needing now. plus with car finance your are normally talking 3 years. and prob 6k over the odds. a mortgage over 25 years can almost add up to 100k over the value.
Merging Cultures Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Thinking of getting a Land Rover Discovery 3, 2006/2007. What problems should I look for? Diesel or petrol? Before the environmentalists get worried, I do need a 4x4.

Before the environmentalists get worried, I do need a 4x4. Me too. You are looking at the Diesel 2.7l, the petrol one is insanely expensive to run and for that reason they dont make it anymore. You dont want a GS as they are too basic and dont have either leather seats or some of the off road computer stuff. XS is fine, HSE are usually lovely if you can find one in your budget. I am looking at about £17,500 for a reasonable mileage 57 plate HSE. Just waiting for a couple of financial transactions to be finalised and I am in. Edit if you are in Lesotho, petrol might be cheaper, but the range is still better on the Diesel.

Yeah the maintenance costs of the diesel seem to be higher, negating any benefit that cheaper diesel might bring. So, probably going to try to get a petrol. Looking at this one http://goo.gl/bcUYSl. Is 195,000km/121,000miles too much? When should have the timing belt etc been changed?
