Webbo Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 I saw the programme. I doubt I could meet the targets. You have to be pretty fit which I am not. Another thing I don't know whether it has been mentioned, the hours worked and rest breaks could break laws. They did say they were within the law but definitions vary and from what I have seen others do it and workers do it because they need the money and work. I'm actually an eccentric millionaire, I go painting and decorating every day as a hobby.
Libertine Dream Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 The last time someone called me an idiot for no reason I got banned, so I think I'll leave this angry little man alone But I was looking forward to seeing that one

Guest MattP Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 You won't find many Romanians moaning at those working conditions If they reverse the bedroom tax to pay for over occupancy the Romanians will be falling into the 40% tax bracket.
Zingari Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 You won't find many Romanians moaning at those working conditions Why are the countries with supposedly so many hard working people still in the shit and are the poorest ?
Stadt Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 Why are the countries with supposedly so many hard working people still in the shit and are the poorest ?Yeahhhh
MooseBreath Posted 27 November 2013 Author Posted 27 November 2013 Why are the countries with supposedly so many hard working people still in the shit and are the poorest ? Do Romanians have a reputation for being hard working then? I haven't heard either way.
Guest MattP Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 Why are the countries with supposedly so many hard working people still in the shit and are the poorest ?Because they have to work for their money.I remember seeing a one legged guy carrying a barrel of sugar in Sri Lanka. Introduce a welfare state and you'll get rid of a work ethic among sections of society. They don't have the cash to create one

Introduce a welfare state and you'll get rid of a work ethic among sections of society. so they are poor countries because they have to work for their money and not having a welfare state has kept them poor ? Do Romanians have a reputation for being hard working then? I haven't heard either way. i didn't say they were , i was responding to a post implying they were
MooseBreath Posted 27 November 2013 Author Posted 27 November 2013 i didn't say they were , i was responding to a post implying they were I think the post implied that working conditions in Romania are genuinely poor rather than that Romanians are hard workers.
pSinatra Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 Why are the countries with supposedly so many hard working people still in the shit and are the poorest ? Why are countries based on common ownership so unequal? I don't know? I was merely pandering to the masses
Nick Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 For some people its not so much about the money. For some it's the love of what they do and the impact it creates.
Zingari Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 I think the post implied that working conditions in Romania are genuinely poor rather than that Romanians are hard workers. Why are conditions so bad in Romania ? Could it be because they haven't fought for the rights that our ancestors fought for and this generation seems to so willingly throw away
Zingari Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 Why are countries based on common ownership so unequal? I don't know? I was merely pandering to the masses you should be a liberal MP then
MooseBreath Posted 27 November 2013 Author Posted 27 November 2013 Why are conditions so bad in Romania ? Could it be because they haven't fought for the rights that our ancestors fought for and this generation seems to so willingly throw away No it's probably because they've never really benefited from a proper industrial revolution or a global empire in the past, and in the present they don't have a world leading financial services industry, world leading high tech engineering industry and world class education establishments driven by a prosperous free market which creates huge demand for a highly skilled workforce, and thus, they poor as shit and can't afford nice things.

So our wealth is nothing to do with how hard we work then and our lifestyle is nothing more than good fortune of being born in Britain ? What we want from our neighbours is is just cheaper labour and a large pool of unemployed to keep it that way

'Our' relative wealth is down to our collective high level of production and innovation in spite of, not because of, those who would be happy to destroy both of those crucial elements in our success in the name of some perverse ideal about 'fairness'.

Yes but Britain's wealth is also down to our organised and educated labour force that continued to fight ( until recently)for rights and better treatment for all and a healthier more balanced society . You seem to be of the opinion that the best way is for the lower classes to always know their place and do as their told and be grateful to have a job that sounds little more than automaton status to me . edit; my relative wealth is down to a combination of being born in Britain ( with it's history of fighting tyranny) , luck and hard work.

I think fighting for workers rights etc is very worthwhile. I am nothing more than a working class east midlander myself so I appreciate all of that. But workers rights don't mean a thing if there is no work. Once workers rights start infringing on the ability of a business to succeed, it has gone too far.

Yes i agree with that , but we have to make sure this isn't a trump card that keeps being played to keep the masses in subjection. All i'm asking is that we as a society in this generation remain vigilant and not keep blaming the unemployed and low payed for their own predicament and constantly pointing out how grateful the lower payed ought to be .
AoWW Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 My Amazon should have been delivered today and it wasn't. Somebody isn't running around that warehouse quick enough.

Agree, but you don't get supposedly reputable BBC documentaries saying those things, do you? While clearly we do get supposedly reputable BBC documentaries devaluing the idea of hard work and vilifying the success of businesses. Based on that I'd say we're swinging too far in the other direction.
Rincewind Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 you should be a liberal MP then That would mean licking some Tory arses.
