Trumpet Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 After tons of pot washing the past few days, I've decided it is time for a dishwasher. Is it possible to split a washing machine cold pipe, to supply the dishwasher and can I do the same for the waste pipe? My plan is to fit it next to the washing machine as to not have to do anything major, other than splitting the pipes (if possible).
jonthefox Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 You can get an adaptor to split your cold pipe , but you'll need an extra waste pipe. It's not that much of a difficult job.

You could buy a single/double tit trap for your kitchen sink and connect the grey hoses on to that. Definitely the easiest way without getting a plumber. Or just bung yor dishwasher waste hose into the same pipe as the wash machine One. It'd be fine. You'd probably not use both appliances at the same time anyway. Pochins on Scudamore Rd will have all you need

I'll try using the same waste pipe for the dishwasher and washing machine and use only one at a time. We're short for plugs anyway so it really will be one or the other.

Yeh you turn the washmachine tap off with the little blue handle. take the hose off. Fit the Y onto the valve then connect both hoses onto the other end of the Y piece. You can buy extension waste hoses and connectors if you wanted to take it back to the sink waste trap. Just use jubilee clips to make a better seal
Trumpet Posted 29 December 2013 Author Posted 29 December 2013 You could get a wife? :xmaslaugh: We're not married, but her standard of washing the pots isn't up to mine (I reckon she does this on purpose actually).
Strokes Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 :xmaslaugh: We're not married, but her standard of washing the pots isn't up to mine (I reckon she does this on purpose actually). If you want a high standard of washing the pots, then i wouldn't bother with a dishwaher. You will spend more time and effort cleaning filter, pre rinsing, loading and unloading than you would if you just did them normally. Not to mention how much dishwasher tabs cost in comparison to liquid.

Thing is, with a small child in the house, I could do with not having pots to wash and be able to get on with other things so I don't mind compromising a bit of washing quality  .
broughtonblue Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 Thought my elderly parents were the only people not to have a dishwasher yet?
red5 Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 I split mine with a y connector and shared the waste pipe no problem, can also use both together. I still need the wife to fill it though .
Zingari Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 i think you need a seperate trap too ( the u tube)
Trumpet Posted 29 December 2013 Author Posted 29 December 2013 Thought my elderly parents were the only people not to have a dishwasher yet? We're in rented accommodation so I didn't want to mess about with removing cupboards and bits, but the landlord gave me the go ahead a few months ago and Christmas has been the final straw!
BoneDog Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 The other day when this thread was new and at the top of the new thread list I clicked on it expecting, in FT fashion, the OP to be an insulting paragraph or two moaning about Danny Drinkwater. Thought it was bang out of order but was relieved upon entering.

Trumpet Posted 1 January 2014 Author Posted 1 January 2014 The dishwasher is currently doing its business. Was fairly easy to install. I ended up getting a self splitting tap piece for the cold pipe under the sink and a new u-bend waste pipe with an extra pipe coming off it. By "I", I mean my Dad.
