I was just thinking of some of the changes that have crept up on our society.

a) My wife (presently seriously ill) was not able to put some heavy bags down in Peacocks because of security concerns.

b) I was forced to pre-pay for petrol purchased from a garage at 9.30pm because of security concerns.

c) A tenpin bowling alley and a restaurant I visited in Nuneaton on a Sunday night (no less) both had security personnel on the door at 7pm.

d) I doubt you can now travel any main road in England without being monitored.

e) A visitor to our house visited the doctors/hospital five times over a 10-day period

and has still to receive the correct diagnosis of what is wrong with her.

f) Barely a day goes by without us being irritated by 10-15 unsolicited sales calls.

g) My son has had to stop wearing a rucksack on public transport.

h)Insurance for young people is now one third (per year) of what I paid for my first house.

Whos to blame Thrach?

152634[/snapback]

Why does there have to be a blame to it? The problem with people these days is that they are too quick to blame someone rather than fix the problems! Ok, sometimes you need to find someone who is responsible for any problem but you dont blame them and make it worse! You have to teach them what they are doing wrong and look at ways of preventing the problem next time. This is very simple i know, but the priniciple behind it should be the same in any problem.

For example, if a little kid goes and kicks someone you dont shout at him and hit him etc, because they wouldnt learn anything, instead you would teach them what they have done wrong and not to do it again.

This would be the same for a criminal. If they murdered someone, locking them up or killing them woudlnt do anything. instead, you should teach them about what they have done wrong and how and why not to do it again.

Again, simple examples but i hope people are seeing where im comming from.

Understandable but you would still use the same principle. You wouldnt blame them because he/she has that disorder. You would try and help them and try to prevent it from happening. But at the end of the day, you wouldnt blame them for what they have done.

Of course not but the softly softly approach doesnt always work though does it? And im not refering to people with personality disorders.

And i totally agree with you. But why go all guns blazing to start of with? The first thing that US did with 9/11 was to focus on how they can counter terrorism. thats all well and good but their next move was to start a war against Afganistan. They didnt go through NATA or UN! They could have resolved something without starting a war OR at LEAST tried to. Ok, you might not get anywhere but at least you have tried. Then if you dont suceed going that way then you go and attack.

Of course, things are different depending on each circumstance but in general im saying that you shouldnt instantly look to blame someone or look for revenge because that rarely gets you anywhere! Look for a resolution first and if thats doesnt work then go ahead with stronger measures. But it depends on the situation and your right Katassi, the softly softly appraoch doesnt always work.

Don't worry. When I've had a couple more beers I'll think of someone. By the way have you tried that Banana Beer they sell in Morrison's. God might have made the Heavens and the Earth but I reckon I know what he must have been drinking to make it all possible.....

TPS

Try that site for some information Thracian. We got a telephone number, should be somewhere on that site and a few weeks after ringing it and registering the number of calls we recieved from salesmen etc was cut by 80%. Whenever we do get a call from a salesman now which is rare we just say we are registered with TPS and they go before you can even say bye. Might be worth a go?

I have a solution for criminals. It's very, very simple.

Any criminal who repeat offends, whether it's as petty as shoplifting or happy slapping is sentenced to death.

This will stamp out wasters in this world who go through their life committing crime after crime and wasting tax payers money. These people have no place in society and serve no purpose what so ever. You often hear about people who have been in out and out prison all their life with various offences and then they go and kill somebody. Prison does re-abilitate some individuals but for some it only serves a period of time for them to become more demoralised and dangerous to this world.

So although it might seem a little harsh, if anybody commits a crime then they have a chance to redeem themselves. If they then commit the same or a similar crime again then they are executed. This will save taxpayers money and prisons will be alot less over-crowded.

My solution might have a few flaws and i'm sure there would be some people setting other people up and getting them wrongfully killed, but I think on the whole it would resolve quite alot of shit that happens in this country.

I agree, crime should equal death.

To your last point, IF a sensible person knew that crime = death, would they do it? I rather think not, so after the idiots have either commited crime and are punished, or they dont commit crime, were left with a sensible society, free from crime.

It costs £40,000 per year per to look after someone in prison.

There must be thousands of people inside. It must be costing us billions each year, yet we get NOTHING for it

On top of that, all the stress caused to innocent victims of those criminals caught, not caught, let loose, and punished.

That stress is not good for society, it reflects on our economic ability, good will to every individual, which repeats more in economic ability and so on and so forth.

Imagine the NHS with millions of extra money spent on it, more people would benefit, and society becomes better, and the economic process is helped, once again.

More money spent on our fire service = lives saved, again better for the economy.

More jobs are created, because the economy is better. Less people are on benefit, because more people are working. Less criminals are taking money from us.

The list is seemingly endless.

The death penalty = a healthier society.

The problem is, the government would never introduce this, for fear of loosing their jobs.

When does a government actually care about the society it which its supposed to be protecting, when they fear for their jobs in doing so.

Its a crazy would WE live in, but not for the well-off, they live in padded comfort, a fortress mile away from danger.
