Keeping the bigger sqaud happy/

We don't but Jeff does, so does GTF, and if they felt that this was a one off and they would be in the next squad, or if they felt they would be given a fair chance to stake a claim for their spot on the bench, they probably wouldn't be so upset, but they know, as we all do really, that barring injuries their seasons are more or less over.

Isn't that fair enough? Why should they be on the bench if their are 18 better players than them in the squad?

They've got a fair chance. What's not fair about picking the best players? They've had every chance to prove they are worthy of a starting place (Schlupp in particular, he's been in the senior team for over 2 years now) but they haven't earnt it.

The problem was we didn't have anyone on the bench good enough to come in for our out of form first 11. Nothing to do with them needing game time, they just weren't good enough.

That is the case for the likes of Schlupp now I'm afraid. GTF is a player to bring on if we want to see out the game, he's not a match winning goalscorer.

I can see what CPF means but I don't agree. The team we are playing is our best starting 11, our most in form 11 and with us being top of the league and capable of beating anyone that means it's the right 11 for the next match. Do you really think we'd have played better against Leeds with Schlupp and GTF in the team? There's no logic behind that. We had an off day. Had we played to our best, that 11 would have beaten Leeds quite convincingly.

Picking the best 11 to win a match is how it works. Picking a weaker team for the sake of it makes no sense.

Can you help me ? I'm looking for FoxesTalk - a place where we slaughter each other for a misplaced apostrophe ..... not somewhere where this considered debating of nuances of talent-management takes place??!!

It's an interesting point - are they our best 11 talents ? Or are they our most effective 11 because they are now settled, getting extensive game-time and now operating close to their personal maximum??

It's a long ass season! All the players in our first team squad will be required. This time last year king and schlupp couldn't get a look in. By April they were both starting.

Glad to see they're disappointed!

You're right that picking a weaker team for the sake of it makes no sense, but it is not about doing it for the sake of it, even if you believe that the same 11 is the correct 11 for every match regardless of fatigue, who we play and how they play, which I don't, rotating and keeping a squad fresh and happy is not for the sake of it, injuries or suspension could mean we need Schlupp as a left back, but if he is unhappy, or missing match sharpness then it could be a disaster. Of course you can't always plan for every eventuality, and you shouldn't sacrifice winning a match to keep Schlupp fresh and happy just in case Konchesky gets injured, but NP's use of his squad and subs is poor, in my opinion, and the only thing I have criticised him for before.

Against Leeds he was too slow to make subs that changed the game, fortunately it didn't cost us, vs Derby we didn't make any tactical subs until the 80th minute, 4-1 up and cruising, this is typical of NP, people will be more likely to accept and enjoy a squad role if they think they will get more than a 10 minute run out.

I think it might do Chris Wood good to go out on loan to a team lower down in the Championship and get some regular starts after

coming back from injury.

He wouldnt play against us, but he may score against some of our rivals. A bit like Lukaku is doing for Everton, to the benefit of Chelsea.

We could always recall him if injuries to other players required it.

The problem for Schlupp is that he never gets a real opportunity to make one position his own over a reasonable period of time.

For all that he'd have liked to have had that chance I can well imagine him getting more and more frustrated by the increasing competition for places at a time when he's actually needed at the club as cover when he might otherwise get a loan move.

Basically, therefore, he's snookered in terms of making progress and that'll seem even harder to him when Konch has the sort of game that Schlupp would have been dropped for.

From Pearson's point of view Konch has done okay most of the season and hardly warrants "dropping" so there's no right or wrong to it - just two points of view and the eternal problem faced by young players in trying to win their places against better paid seniors who have a longer CV.

For all this, Schlupp's not made the best of his cameos for whatever reason and having not generated any clamour for his inclusion, he's made his breakthrough even harder to achieve.

I don't think we've ever got the best out of Schlupp mostly because there have been no vacancies in the places he might be chasing. And the truth is that if he's not yet shown himself to be better than what we already have he'll never be better sitting on the bench or even excluded from the matchday squad.

Bottom line is that Schlupp would probably be better off (for his own career) somewhere else, unless he wants the chance to put "Promotion to the Premiership" on the CV I mentioned!

I can't see anybody other than Phillips being the first striker to come off the bench when we need a goal, how are we gonna keep Wood happy because for the immediate future he isn't gonna get a start is he? Thought we needed Wood vs Leeds instead of Phillips because he's meant to be the poacher, and putting the ball in the box was something we failed to do the entire game. Thankfully it paid off but it's looked at the moment when we're winning, we bring GTF on to hold the ball up, when we need a goal we bring Phillips on.. Wood???

Agree Trent, fascinating debate, obviously getting more minutes will improve understanding as is proven through the spine of the team Moore/Morgan, Drinky/James & Vardy/Nugent. The options open are surely a benefit not a hinderance? Personally I feel they are our most effective starting 11 with great options off the bench if things are not going as planned.I would envisage that keeping the squad happy is far easier in our current position than say if we were currently in 8th place.

I wouldn't be against loaning Wood to someone like Bournemouth. Attacking side where he'll get games, who don't really threaten us but could hurt our rivals.
