sorry , no it's not barkby  :(

7. Dunton Basset?

yes  i was actually going to amend that because i thought it was unfair having clues that required local knowledge without stating it.

regarding 4

4, Stricly speaking it should read "Pluto Platter" but i thought it looked too easy but obviously the alternative  name for this  popular outdoor toy is not as well known as i thought .

Amended clues

4,  Pluto Platter (google ............)FRISBY

8 , A Galago without a degree (BA)...............BUSHBY

11, It sounds like   tactile "Phrenology" might be practiced 'ere  .

or, 11,  If a part of your body was numb it would ...............?

Will you explain how you get Dunton Bassett? I don't understand.

11. Field head,

I found that on a Wiki list but not on a map, where is it?

Field Head is correct , it's near Markfield on the A50 I think it consists of no more than a few houses and a pub

I used "mortified" in it's original sense ( dead ) not in the sense it is more commonly used now ie , mortified to the touch i 'ear  = feel dead = field head

the other clue , if a body part is numb it would "feel dead"

dunton and bassett are a pair of streets off Woodgate and i was going to amend the clue that local knowledge was required but notnowjohn had already solved it.

i said in an earlier post that it was a bit unfair on those not aware of this

Another word for a  Frisbee (FRISBY) is  pluto platter, but this doesn't seem to be as well known as i thought it was :D

Thanks for that John

Here's the second part ,  hopefully they are all  solvable , and I've tried to mingle in a few easier and harder ones .
I'll amend clues in a few days if any are proving much too hard, but hopefully not.
I don't think there are any of this group that require specific local knowledge to solve them ( such as street names etc as in the Dunton Bassett on in the last set) and all the place names can be found here on Wiki

Saltby - Salt (sailor) By (next to) boiler cryptic clue for cooking together. Too complicated :)

3, Ab Kettleby

10. Branston

both correct

Saltby - Salt (sailor) By (next to) boiler cryptic clue for cooking together. Too complicated :)

ab (able bodied) seaman + kettle (boiler) +by (next to) =ab kettleby

seaman = "AB" is often used in newspaper crosswords ( as is salt, jack, tar, RN ) in the same way  RA is used  for artist ,  etc
