Without sounding too paranoid, what steps have you taken 'just in case' something happens?

I've got some first aid kits, one in the car and one at home, and I'm going to start putting together bug out bags and store some fuel. I also have an evac plan.

But then again I live in Africa and we are having some political instability in the country I live in. The border to RSA in town will be a mess. So I need to be ready.

But also when I lived in Baltimore I had to be prepared against home invasion and severe weather.

I've got some plasters somewhere and a few paracetamol. Thankfully the uk is still largely a first world country so I don't have to prepare myself with weaponry like some kind of savage.

I've got a cricket bat and a flick knife in my room if someone breaks in. Dont have a first aid kit or anything like that really.

My wife and her friend laughed at me for the first aid kits, then they both burned themselves cooking, but I had some burn kits. Then my wife cut herself when we were out in the bush and I fixed the cut.

For me, first aid kits are really important! And I'm not being paranoid!!

If we had gun laws like America I would be stocked up to the max. But unfortunately we don't so I've got a mental dog and booby traps set up outside all entry points.

 

To be honest though, you can't prepare for what the worlds elite are cooking up for us.

Annoying yapper dogs are good. As good as burglar alarms really and can sense folk lurking and warn you to get strapped up. Tough dogs are pretty useless if someone's coming to do damage but at least they'll give it a go and buy you a few valuable seconds while the violent thugs are dealing with them.

To be fair I do have a 1st aid kit and when I replaced my old kitchen knives I kept the old ones "just in case".

When was 14/15 a bloke tried was in the house and was about to commit rape - since then I've always kept a close eye on the knives so I know here they are.

Also just bought a face mask key ring - had to give CPR at work a few months ago - luckily we had a mask to hand but now I want one with me. The blokes teeth were ****ing terrible.

No - nobody tried to rape me. It was a member of my family - just as I came home from my mates house. He had been round a few times before and this time waited until she was alone and got her drunk.

I heard what was going on. Got the two biggest knives in the drawer and went upstairs - kicked open the bedroom door and informed him less than politely that he was getting out or getting cut. He tried to scare me (which he succeeded in, I was only young) but to be honest he was off her and I just wanted to get the cvnt out.

We had a bit of a fight on the stairs (no stabbing, I'm too ****ing nice) and he eventually left - naturally the police were called and he was caught and dealt with.

Anyway. Before I lose my temper with myself for bringing this up my moral of the thread is yes, always prepared.

I'm not "hard" or a "gangster" I hate violence, try to avoid it at all costs and don't do anything illegal. I'm a normal hard working 26 year old. But don't think that just because you keep yourself to yourself that nobody will every try to cause you or your family pain. If they ever target me, they will have a scrap on their hands.

Bloody hell mate that sounds absolutely horrific. Thankfully nothing like that has ever happened to me or a member of my family but I guarantee if it did I'd react in the exact same way as you did.
